I guess it’d make sense that people wouldn’t wage war for the first 100 ish years, since they would still be establishing themselves and stuff, but that wouldn’t be enough to explain the stagnation in technology

maybe stuff like guns aren’t much of a thing because gunpowder was much more difficult to get[1] which resulted in guns generally not being worth using over more simple weapons like bows and crossbows
with the bottleneck probably being saltpeter/potassium nitrate, which you can either mine (but it’s soluble in water so it wouldn’t really occur on magius because it was on the seafloor) or from extracting it from animal waste which probably wouldn’t supply enough considering there doesn’t seem to be very extensive animal husbandry ↩︎
Wouldn’t the ocean water’s evaporation have caused the formation of saltpeter mineral deposits across magius though
then it’d probably be a pretty thin layer everywhere, but other salts would also be mixed in, which would make it more difficult to separate it and purify it so you can actually use it for gunpowder
also it would just get washed away into the soil after a few rainy days most likely
Couldn’t magic repilace the propulsion gunpowder is used to propel bullets for
why would you bother figuring out the perfect pressure for the gun to not explode and to fire the bullet as far as possible when you can just blast your opponent with magic directly?
(also guns would be less accurate, and you would need a heat based magic for it to even work)
(and the main appeal of guns is having powerful long range attacks without needing to have magic)
All what if needed is a way to push the bullet forward also gun is faster than magic in how fast it moves as a projectile. So any magic that ain’t light or shadow or something should work
