Yeah, I know what this is like. Bio gave me some advice on the matter in my own thread, though:
played the update for 10 minutes, accidentally crashed my ship into someones build and left the game out of embarrassment, i love this game so fucking much (sincere)
here’s some more shading practice.
if anyone has any feedback i would be happy to ignore it
Needs more abs.
Actually, I’d suggest making the shading a biiiiit stronger, as right now it’s barely noticeable. Don’t really want to put in that much effort only for it to be nigh-invisible. Take this with a pinch of salt, as I don’t do shading much, if at all, myself.
Also, have you considered give her abs?
she probably does–they’re just never shown. there are a lot of reasons i decided against doing this–lore-wise, logistically and regards to design philosophy. the third is the only one that concerns this forum
the long and short of it is i want all of my characters to be as unique from one another as i can reasonably make them; aisha is overtly muscular and top-heavy. kazane is slender and bottom-heavy. her outfit is designed to show zero skin. her legs are probably where most of her muscle is anyway, honestly.
also yeah the shading is funky. i couldnt figure out how to fix it without retouching it and by that point i already spent like a week on it. so i gave up i work very slow and it is a terrible habit
Body diversity and character-befitting outfits is even more based than giving everyone abs. You have my approval.
Also, for shading, I strongly suggest working from big to small in terms of shadows. I know this philosophy applies to a LOT of things in art, but trust me, if you do it in the proper order, it doesn’t take as long. And it’s less painful to do.
First I’d suggest blocking in the areas of weak, yet large shadow. Like where the curvature of the body begins to block the light. Then add the harsh shadows—either replacing the prior areas or overlaying them. Finally, start adding the little details. Like how the light vanishes into crevices of clothes, under hair, etc.
thts wgat i did lol
i think its more an issue of how the shading layer was blended over the color layer or something that made it not strong enough
my craft will be refined for the next time i make something within the next three-ish months if we’re fucking lucky.
