Theory has it that everything evolves into crabs, but in the Arcane Universe, Durzacheron’s super duper mega dega humongous dumongous attack scattered energy all throughout Earth. This energy was filled with evil, malicious intent, causing sealife to be wiped out and forced to evolve, granting Atlanteans. However, outside of the Dark Sea, the oceans still became polluted with magic energy, similarly causing a shift in the evolutionary patterns of fish and crustaceans there. However, in a turn of events, some of these creatures (namly crustaceans) devolved, causing them to devolve back into whatever they were previously, giving us an ocean full of humans, whales, and sharks.
