Proposal

Let heat magics work underwater at lesser strength

Details/background on your proposal

Heat magics should function underwater at lesser strength instead of being completely useless in water.

PROPOSALS

  1. Flat 33% reduction in damage when underwater
-simple solution, discourages players from using heat magics in water while still allowing them to be used

  2. Heat magics quickly fizzle out when used in water
-Projectiles quickly lose size/damage when traveling in water and eventually vanish after reaching a certain size threshold
-Other spells have massive damage falloff when used in water

Reason to add/change

The new diving update occurs entirely underwater, and mages who only have heat magics have no source of damage to kill sharks when attacked underwater(shark hunting weapons are unreliable). This flat out doesn’t let these users experience the update which is fucking stupid because choosing a certain magic(or pair of magics) shouldn’t bar you from experiencing core gameplay features.

Even bers have a hard time underwater but i guess fire users have it harder.

I don’t get why explosion magic can’t work underwater explosions can happen underwater

sun better not get evaporated by the ocean or istg this game’s “logic” finna make me act up

this should totally be a thing. especially with, for example, plasma, which gives the schorch effect. if something is hot enough to scorch someone I’m pretty sure it could make water scorching hot for a short period of time, which would do damage, maybe not as much, but still enough.

It’s not very immersive, but with the new update it’s a need

At the very least in deeper waters the water pressure would compress the explosion and crush it.

imploding the explosion…

Magma should just shoot at solid obsidian

i prefer the second option
could still have a small damage debuff literally just for the sake of discouraging and showing the minus sign, while still being able to kill sharks easily at close range as anyone should

now if we wanna be more specific as fire underwater makes no sense

  • plasma, fire and explosion become steam
  • magma becomes earth with the color of obsidian (very unlikely and logically itd remove melting)
  • ice… behaves normally i guess. could make it so that only blasts create platforms but the other spells act as normal
  • snow and sand are unchanged visually

this suggestion also solves the major issue of people just running and logging by leaping into the water when against a heat mage. it may not seem realistic but I personally think balance + fun > realism. I had this exact argument multiple times in the discord and the people called me “selfish” for wanting a basic right to be able to FIGHT BACK using my PREFFERED playstyle instead of adopting bows (which dont work underwater anymore) or guns (long ass cooldown) which are of a different class. I picked the fire magic class to use fire magic not to use bows underwater and against runners.

If immersion makes my choice of magics completely useless at sea in a sea based game then screw that immersion

Just like how sand should work underwater
(Not that it affects me much)

me when i cant throw cannon balls in the water (ao logic)

me when my teleport dash can only be done horizontally underwater (I can do it in any other direction in the air)
