You can also do normal mode 3 times to get the same reward.
The most consistent source of lunacy is Mirror Dungeon, and you can only get 750 per week. As TheoreticalExistence said, 3 MD normal is equal to 1 MD hard. Hard mode may be a bit faster than 3 normals, but you get slightly less battle pass XP for the module efficiency iirc.
Otherwise, you have the weekly 300 lunacy from maintenance and the EX bonus from the story. Once the latter is gone, you really only get 1050 per week.
There isn’t anything else you can do to gain lunacy (other than paying up), it’s really about how you save your lunacy. Don’t pull unless you really need to, aka only early game. Only pull during walpurgis otherwise.
If you are really dedicated to the game then you can use them for enkephalin refreshes to get modules to grind MD for more crates to dispense ID’s instead of gambling. This is supposedly a lot more efficient than gambling, especially if you have BP.

If you want some strong units, go for Pequod or Kurokumo.
I’d suggest wild hunt because wild hunt is extremely strong but that won’t be available to shard until the next season starts.
Equally I’d suggest Full Stop but walpurgis isn’t active.
R corp heath is strong but he runs out of ammo extremely fast.

I want the kind of ID that works in any team otmr maybe even an ego, is fell bullet good?
Fell bullet’s only particularly good if you’re running a heathcliff with a gun.
IDs have way more value outside of super specific egos
Pequod is a pretty strong generalist though, while they benefit greatly from envy resonances, they do just straight up hurt people more the more damage they take lol.
Its a shame you can’t shard wild hunt yet, though, since he’s like one of THE generalists.
I’ll probably get an ego that works with sunshower heathcliff.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but sunshower heathcliff is one of the worst IDs in the game except for during specific parts of canto 6 at which point he’s top tier because of certain extremely silly status interactions lol.
(negative coin with weak tanking capabilities that relies on self-sinking to lower sanity for some reason and has no definitive archtype??? also the worst S1 in the game why does it roll a 6)

Nah he’s a tank and he wins clashes he’s both a scapegoat and a dps unit he carried me a lot against bosses.
I think i’ll get my form empties cuz of the attack weight and the passive synergies well.

Ya Sunyata is a great ego for heathcliff, but its negative synergy with sunshower.
Its great because its relatively cheap SP healing for the team (including himself)
