Long Savant Rant

I wanna be a savant, I really do, but right now there’s no reason to play this class. As someone said, AO does not have the depth required for savant to be good. Why bother mastering 6 item slots if some mage or warlock can just press E and hit me from the other side of the arena?

It takes so little skill to play those classes, and every build is meant to be balanced only savant takes 10 times the experience to actually master and be good at that level. One of the reasons I switched to savant was to that i had better mobility options, but mage is literally getting flight next update so whats even the point? Will I have to wait 2 more years until my savant unlocks flight as well?

As a player you only need a close range dmg attack (self explosion), a consistent long range dmg dealer (blast), a grab (snare), moves that are easy to land like beam, pulsar, placed explosion, and maybe qol stuff like array or aura. Mage comes with all of that and huge size, savant is so annoying bro, I dont need 20 different types of blast, I dont need 4 grabs, and in the future all the mobility shit I unlock is gonna be capped by the fact that you can only do 2 in the air. By that point every class will have at least that much but better because they got better tiers.

2-3 item slots is enough to cover almost any situation, you dont need 6 and you certainly dont need 9 as we’ll get in the future. Not to mention weapons and spirit have so much overlap in abilities, and weapons and strength have a lot of overlap as it is.

Warrior has 3 weapon slots you can customize with any ability. Long, short range, grab, teleport you name it. Savant is basically a shitty warrior with less size. There’s just no point in this class when every other class already has enough moves to cover any of their weaknesses, and if they dont have that now they will in the future.

Make tiers scale with level as opposed to invested stats, im so tired of being the only one that doesnt play a braindead ass class

savant before the second awakening is just kinda bad.
the sheer amount of synergies that will open up once savant gets the second awakening will solve the problem with having so many different options, since most savants will probably use weapons and fighting styles for their main tools, since those can get the most imbues and thus synergies

yeah, that spell that’s only useful for travelling medium distances, can’t be used in combat unless your opponent lets you charge it up for 15 seconds, and has a very long cooldown will definitely give mage better mobility than savant in most cases, totally.
but you also forgot about savants getting spirit rise and spirit walk, both of which are very good mobility skills along with already having access to fighting styles, leap spells, and certain weapon skills that also grant some mobility.

how do you know it takes 15 seconds

Hi, savant main here

You don’t need to, you can use boxing + a shield and reduce the hotbar clutter from 6 to 5, or if you use a shield, 4 (since literally most of the skills you unlock are blast rip-offs)

Rn my main problem is dealing with endlag, weapon equip time (god why does this exist) and the fact my size is shit

Also savant was my first file so you can imagine how that went :skull:

My only form of mobility is mirrored river and leap
Oh, and airstall with max blast/explosion count to get them off cooldown

At that point you probably have something better than flight, or multiple ‘weaker’ versions of flight

You can use placed explosion and just hover the mouse over your player character

That’s one of the things that savant doesn’t have unlike other classes
Magic has aura
Strength has focus
Weapons have stuff like gunners agility
Vitality is pretty much a rip-off of weapons so they also have aura and stuff

Hybrids have enough points spent to unlock them
Savant? Nuh-uh, worse case scenario you gotta be level 260 to unlock them or something

TRUE

Hear me out
Savant 1st awakening also gives you another air movement since another magic/fs is just mage/beserker but worse because of tiers

Which is quite ironic, since savant is literally meant to be the jack of all trades, to adapt and overcome
Some of your abilities aren’t gonna be used in a fight against this specific enemy, which isn’t a problem…

IF MOST OF THEM ARENT REDUNDANT
(Also yeah you’re never gonna use that much hotbar slots in your lifetime, you also need hotbar shit for like food and stuff/potions or whatever)

You’re not the only one buddy
(Also hey wanna join my clan)

its fun to make the game harder for yourself though

That reminds me that I’ve never seen a savant on the leaderboards.

did I miss something.

yes :3

this is incredible news.

(me)

you arent built for the savant grindset. krill issue!

Another savant main here, since hanmbi provided the PvP perspective, I’ll focus on the PvE perspective which I’m primarily playing the game for.

So far savant has been an absolute beast when it comes to grinding for stuff in this game as it covers all methods of grinding and efficiently at that.

If you’re ever interested on playing the game for PvE as well, I’ll provide some tips for grinding things you need.

Build Distribution - 130 spirit | 70 magic | 80 strength
2nd Magic/FS - Any magic with tp reflex | CFist

Necessary Armor Sets - Max destruction set (All enchanted with enhanced scrolls), max blocking power set (All enchanted with brisk scrolls), and max swimming speed set (All enchanted with agile scrolls).

  1. Clearstone Farming - Use the CFist m1 for these with the max destruction set. If you want to see in the dark, try messing with your gamma, contrast and brightness. I highly suggest something around this until you can see in the Titan Cavern:

  2. Sea Monster Farming - Enchant four net launchers with brisk and you’re pretty much good to go against any sea monsters. If you’re looking to farm Obolus, use the clearstones you’ve farmed to brew a T5 clearsight cauldron and look for a decently sized flat terrain at the sea floor.

  3. Underwater Reagent Farming- Use the net launchers to lure the sharks to the surface and then switch to the max swimming speed set. You should prefer underwater chart structures (Not diving spots with the air bubbles) with a lot of flat ground since those mostly have a lot of reagents.

  4. Jellyfish Flesh Farming - Equip the eagle patrimony and the max destruction set and pretty much just use the spirit blast.

  5. Boss Farming - Use stormcaller with ardent enchantment since savant still gets a bonus damage increase without any points on weapons. Do use the max blocking set while doing farming bosses as it makes it a whole lot harder for you to die.

  6. Growth Sap/Metal Scrap Farming - Equip the max destruction set and use your CFist m1 on trees in Forest of Cernunno to farm growth sap. Find the metallic biome in the dark sea and wait for the trees to respawn after you destroy them for metal scraps.

  7. Shark Fin/Poisonous Teeth Farming - Try getting at least 10 shark teeth and brew T1 bleeding burst potions to summon sharks, then use the net launchers to easily kill them. You would gain back more than 10 shark teeth after this which would allow you to continuously farm any shark variants.

  8. Lurker Eye Farming - If you’ve gotten some amphibious blooms from underwater chart structures, craft a T2 gale burst potion to summon a whirlpool. At minimum you need it to be T2 to be able to spawn the lurkers, do note that this is based on chances and the tiers would not increase its spawn chance. After that, just use the net launchers again to kill them off, you’re guaranteed to get at least one lurker eye for every kill.

Pretty much you’re able to do all of those efficiently and effectively as a savant, otherwise the rest of the PvE content is doable by any class with no change on anything or lose some of the efficient methods on farming.

wait, i provided the pvp perspective?
i dont do pvp
99% of my pvp experiences are with gankers
99% of my gameplay is PvE
TwT
(anyway would you like to join my clan)

max destruction isnt neccesary
if youre willing to spend 3 light canonballs per stalagmite/stalagtite

cfist smash x5 count also works

never really did boss farming, only consistent ‘cheese’ strategy i know is standing at the bow of maria’s brig and holding block while using gun lmb

as a savant i think you should play savant (its lit)

Thought you did to be honest, since you mostly provided things related to PvP. Also sadly I’m already in a clan :pensive: .

Oh yeah to add onto this, if you’re willing to use your grapeshot while the rework is still not in effect, you also don’t need max destruction as it destroys them either way.

For the jellyfish flesh farming, I highly encourage using spirit blast from eagle patrimony with a destruction power effect at minimum of 10% just to meet the one shot requirement. Spirit blast is just faster from my testing since you can aim at all the jellyfish while being in one spot but if you aren’t looking for efficiency, then I guess you need to invest in 100% air capacity or T3+ waterbreathing.

huh
i was just reacting to the og guy’s post, not neccesarily making a pvp standpoint

ah, well thats fine

yeah so the cfist rework has a chance not to go through

i never really farm jellyfish flesh, but i like to use cfist anyway since the smash will allow me to regen like 10 extra stamina ontop of ‘moving’ me down a little bit, allowing me to clear out the diving spot faster

Another Savant main here.
I will say savant as a whole is just a weaker but severely more fun class to play than others. Learning to use it is just part of the process.

If I am in a closed space I can just spam my self AOE skills extremely fast by cycling between smash(slam), Devastate, raging impact, self explosion, crash etc.

If I have to play long ranged and zone, I can get up really high via leap and flash strike and use blast, placed explosion, dagger throw, piercing shot, colossal cleave, cannon and a bunch more.

If I have to fight at a constant medium range like in Argo’s boss chamber, I can even use sparrow thrust, whirlwind, flying pheonix, placed explosion, smash(shockwave) and in the future even Astrapikis.

I do want to note that having good coverage is one thing, but personalizing them makes it more fun. Like how it should suit your playstyle to make it as fun as possible. I used to find it troublesome to farm certain things until I switched to savant, and you know savant is extremely adaptable.

Be creative on your builds, it can absolutely make you love it when you personalize your attacks.
