Looking for writer's advice/suggestions

Before I start I want to say this is just a small request and is my own passion project. It’s completely fine if u don’t want to help, I wouldn’t mind a bit.

(Short version is I’m writing my own novel and I would like some advice)

So I’ve been working on my fantasy novel since August. It starts as scraps of ideas, mainly me messing with my AO file’s lore. Then I remembered my old projects burning in the dumpster fire and rotting because I never planned em out.

So I threw all of my OCs into this new project, rewrote their lore entirely to make them seperate from AO, and eventually started writing. It’s surprising not burnt and crashing yet so far and I have no plans to stop soon.

However, I am still a pretty inexperienced writer, and there are points that I am stuck at. Several forumers and my clanmates have helped me a lot, I’d like to thank them for their assistance.

So I want to ask for advice or suggestions. Anything. You can throw in as many ideas as you want, any bit of contribution helps. You can contact me on discord, user is justarandomguy1.

Ofc you absolutely don’t have to, I don’t want to pressure you all. If no one replies I’ll just delete this thread.

Not sure if this is writing or ofd topic, if I violated something I will delete it :skull:

Well writing advice leads to writing so you should be fine

ask @Gamehero14 They helped me in DM’s and told my flaws in writing, I’ll tell you this, don’t make your paragraphs big, chunk em so it doesn’t look intimidating to the reader, but honestly show it in other platforms because some people here do NOT read, but since you have a good relative popularity, I doubt you’ll get less feedback.

That explains the amount of pm fans

Ello.

I can help you in the grammatical sense, @justarandomguy . But I admit that my experience in writing anything lengthy is limited. I’ve learned a few things of note while writing, though I don’t know how much use they’ll be to you. All of this is unfortunately just generalized advice—again, I am no novelist.

Firstly; an outline is vital, but you want to be careful with how much you fill in. And remember that it’s supposed to be more liquid than set. Having a general idea of what you’re doing is good, but if you try and plan out every intricate detail, you’ll get bored.

Secondly; re-read over every paragraph you write multiple times. Especially after a few days, where you’ll be able to catch mistakes more readily. Your mind tends to dismiss smaller details if you’ve been at it for a while.

Thirdly; if you see something you really aren’t happy with, but can’t figure out how to fix, highlight it and move on. Come back to it later. Sometimes it can take a while to properly come up with things, and trying to “hyper-focus” on it won’t always work. Leave it in the background for a bit as you continue, then try coming back after a while to see if you’ve thought of anything.

Now—a warning: I am a very slow writer. If you suspect that any of this advice will slow you down, you are free to dismiss it. Again, I’m not that experienced, I’m just good at grammar and the mechanics of writing.
