I was wondering, what could be the source backing drachma?
Is it gold?
I was personally thinking arcanium.
(Theirs not enough gold in drachma for 20000 to be worth a brig. So it can’t be its own backing)

Arcanum seems too expensive to use for coins. I personally think it’s gold but with a very different economic standard. Also prices in-game wouldn’t match realistic lore so they’re not much to go off of.
For not using arcanium remember one pellet of arcanium could be 500 coins
I mean arcanium isn’t really expensive unless its high quality , and it’s kind of a blanket term
Really all “arcanium” means is that it has sea salt in it that lets it conduct magic energy, even fabric or glass can be arcanium
Like would arcanium tin be worth anywhere near what arcanium iron is worth? I feel like that would just complicate the arcane economy ![]()
As for the brig thing, uhhhhh
Assuming a drachma weighs as much as a quarter each (definitely more they are fairly large and gold (heavy)), they would be about 0.2 ounces each
0.2 * 1/16 * 20000 = 250lb of drachma
Assuming average purity of say 90% (average for gold coins) that’s 225lb of gold
As of my writing this gold is valued at $64,486.72 per pound
That means 20000 drachma would be worth $14,509,512 in the LEAST
I’d say that’s probably enough for a brig
You forget gold is manufactured by magic
So golds price is basically paper
No, magics canonically don’t create new material, after casting say gold magic the gold you cast fades into magic energy after a few minutes/seconds
Magic can’t create matter
No infinite money glitch
The metal curse user can make permanent money at will but regular mages can’t cause it disappears quickly.
If the metal curse user isn’t canonically shown rn. They could be head of the golden ones
I think the metal curse user is in the seven seas, not the war seas. I could be wrong though.
I don’t think 7 seas is cannonical yet
It doesn’t have a ds note
fracture, theos, acheron:
Yeah but the seven seas as a sea cluster isn’t confirmed in game
not outright stated but it definitely is still canonical
we’re told there are other sea clusters, and we’re told that the people from the seven seas are still lore relevant, so lo and behold with the power of context clues we can say that the seven seas are in fact still canon!
True true
We have no real way of calculating if drachmas are gold or not, so by using the average price of supplies (50) then we can use the height of the average human height: 1.71 meters - the shoulder to top of head height: 0.31 meters we find the cargo box is 1.4 meters cubed. The average stacking effeciency of wooden planks in 98% and assuming palotown sources it’s wood domestically from its oak trees we get roughly 1050 kilograms of oak. Using the selling price of oak at $4 (kiln dried) per kilo we get roughly $4200 per 50 galleons. Divining the 4200/50 we get each galleon to be $82 this makes galleons equivalent to osmium.
This also brings the brig down to $8000000 which is almost 20 times more expensive then the largest of brigantines
Inflation is really hitting the war seas
cURses can be flung pretty damn far, i Wouldnt put it pASs the metal cURse being flung all the Way to War sEAS somehow
