You actually have to learn how to swim. Going into a body armor without this knowledge will cause you to instantly drown to death.
Wooden rods break after 3 uses. All rods will break after attempting to catch a big fish. Catching a big fish can kill you if you get hit by it as its getting out of the water, and it can kill you because the big fish is still alive. Don’t catch big fish.
poison, acid, magma, fire, plasma all instant kill
All magics instant kill except for wind, which deals approximately… 0 damage. You are not surviving a giant metal ball being hurled at your noggin’.
characters with too high of an age will have negative stats affecting them (they’re slower, less health, use more stamina etc)
if ur age is also too high you have a chance to die from old age and you cannot play that save anymore

since AO takes during the 1850s and we’re talking about realism, anyone that doesnt look as white as the michelin man gets several gameplay restrictions (and can also ‘‘forcibly assist’’ you through purchases) (and they also get constantly thrown insults at if they even talk you, which most wont.)
You have a chance to fracture your bones by over exerting yourself, meaning combat rolling or using an M1 while you have no stamina can eventually break your limbs or make you faint from exhaustion, leaving you open to enemies.
If your ship gets hit by a cannonball, it instantly sinks. If it gets hit by an explosive shell or a magic cannon ball, everyone including you on the ship dies.
In order to play the game in the way you currently are(bascially current AO), you’d have to get a sea curse. Touching water with a curse makes you instantly evaporate. This includes water magic.
you can have a child with iris but you have to pay child support and take care of them
To join the grand navy, you have to:
Do a math test
Do a civics test(AO history)
Pass a physical exam(you have to fight someone else trying to sign up)
Failing these requirements will cause you to have to wait until November 4th(ingame or real life, whichever is worse) to apply again. Bad at combat? Better luck next time.
To join the Assassins Syndicate, you have to:
Successfully kill a hero(which would be increasingly worse to do since you have all the other bad things added), recommended to use a GUN(one shot either instant kills or leaves them in a critical state)
Pay the Assassins Syndicate 500 Galleons
The Assassins Syndicate double as a loan shark agency. If you get a lost limb and you are too P O O R to buy a prosthetic, you can ask the AS to give you some cash. Of course, you have to pay it back, and every month there’s an added 200% interest(ingame month), with a starting payback cost of 10,000 galleons.
the addition of pets that act just like every other cash grab simulator. you get them from buying eggs and there are super rare pets that have like an unbeliveably low chance to hatch and are super rare, thus giving really good passive stats. ( + extra pets gamepass for maximum p2w )
you can get dysentery from certain foods at random and you will shit everywhere and die
You have to train your body(similar to getting a fighting style) in order to use a weapon(do you know how heavy a rapier actually is?). It will take you 20 minutes to be able to effectively wield a Rapier.
Old weapons have a chance of breaking upon use, 0.9% chance.
All weapons will break if you hit them on a hard surface 100 times(ground, General Argos, a ship, a wall…)
Failing to pay back your AS loans will result in them hunting you down and killing you. Now, you have to make a new file.
Fighting styles are heavily nerfed. Boxing is basically just faster basic combat, Iron leg is literally just kicks, knocking fist is basically just drinking a bottle of orange juice and trying to fight someone, sailor fist instantly kills you, Karate is actually useful. All fighting styles have a chance to break your arms/legs if you try and use a fighting style on an armored enemy or if you use them and they hit the ground.
running/dashing on rough surfaces (like the rocks in the stepstone) will have a small chance for your character to slip, playing a cartoony banana peel slip sound and causing you to ragdoll for a few seconds before getting back up.
Sharks are slightly more rare, but finding a shark while your in the water means death since one bite=instant kill.
The White Eyes will always spawn under the Frostmill ice. Recommended to get off your ship and onto the land as soon as possible to avoid getting one shotted.
Cannon fist no longer exists.
Has a chance to also fracture a bone.
Being on a governed island(redwake, frostmill, palo, ravenna) will give you taxes to pay. Failing to pay taxes will make the islands government chase you out of the island.
Cirrus island does not exist.(you can’t make an island on clouds) Instead of cirrus island, it is replaced with Heaven. Being a good person ingame will send you to heaven.
plus fall damage is enabled during the ragdoll phase so if you fall from a really large height you are basically dead.
When you make it to heaven, then you get to play normal AO.
