You know that lightning particle that’s like a transparent background PNG of lightning that disappears and then comes back and then disappears again? If you don’t, it’s used for basically all lightning particle effects and, in my opionion, looks really janky and awkward. A way to make these particles better (make them more visually appealing and realistic) is to replace them with this cool thingy Roblox has called flipbook particles.
For those who don't know how flipbook particles work
Flipbook particles are basically images of a chart of different frames of smaller images that roblox can turn into a particle animated like a “flipbook”
(artist’s representation of how lightning would look with flipbooks)
How to implement:
- change the lightning asset ID to rbxassetid://13773336783 for the one on the left or rbxassetid://13773336783 for the one on the right
- under the “Flipbook” property, change FlipbookLayout to 4x4 and FlipbookMode to OneShot
It’s that easy.
Other things to take into account:
- Partcline’s magic has flipbooks for lightning visuals and it looks cool
- The updated explosion visuals also use flipbooks
