When I see a merchant ship, my first reaction is not “Ooh, I wonder what they’re selling,” but instead “If only I were a villain and could loot them for sealed chests,” because rn they are useless and unexciting. There is almost 0 reason to go check them since they sell junk 9/10 times and the only things you could hope to get are arcspheres or fair power amulets. This is also mostly to do with the fact that power and defense are STILL pretty much the only viable stats. Nobody’s gonna use items that give shitty stats or really small amounts of stats.
I say to fix this, merchants should have more items for sale, and they should sometimes be able to sell other things like gems or potions, and rarely, treasures like pulsar and vindicator. They should definitely have more interesting items than a camp marker and headband that gives 2 agilty or some shit. And while you’re at it, buff the amount of stats that non power/defense items give ¯_(ツ)_/¯
No its even worse, atleast the wandering trader scams you for easily accessible decorations.
Merchant ships scam you for easily accessible literal garbage.
Reminds me of my merchant ship suggestion. I don’t think they should have the generic meta accessories though, that seems very short-sighted and would absolutely ruin the value of these items. Stuff thats alright such as titanium or sorcerer stuff would be fine, fair amulets are fine, meals (and potions when they are added) are fine, strong cannonball types are fine, and good ship parts are also fine. They could also sell completely unique stuff, but that would require a bit more effort.
I mean the only way I think the merchants could be really useful is if you we’re playing some weird challenge for ao like playing on a flat world for Minecraft or some shit
Merchants selling stuff that other NPCs don’t?
Sounds good-ish. Maybe they should have a chance to sell any item of uncommon or higher rarity? Except for Boss Drops, probably.
If a merchant could sell, for example, enchantment scrolls, though not many of those, that would make it a lot more likely for people to want to check what they are selling.
“Hi! I’m Mary, and have recently set up this tiny shop on my sailboat! Anyways I stole the King’s crown after he was assassinated and am now selling it! What can I do for you today? ”
“Hello, would you like to see our AMAZING wares?”
“Woman, your sailboat, which is not even reinforced, sunk in a rough water area and youre trying to sell me stuff while your ship has sunk??? well i guess i could see what youre selling” opens shop menu
“WHAT THE #### ARE THESE KINDS OF WARES!?, no wonder pirates ignore you, since you dont have alot of treasure anyway!”
mind you, this is coming from a RICH merchant
they probably got this rich from scamming
(also the first sentence is literally what i got from interacting with them)
