I feel like this one could give the game a slightly more lifelike feel
So, we know how the one guy in sailor’s lodge (presumably) makes his mugs from ice magic.

Why not give mages or magic players in general small utilities exclusive to them? They’re not the strongest, if not a bit situational, but could also be useful in some cases.

How they’d get them? Maybe if they have atleast 50-100 points of magic and are.. say, level 60-80?

“But what do you mean by ‘utilities’?”

Well, just small tricks they could do to make the magic feel a little special, especially for some with heavy shortcomings.

A few examples are:

Wind magic users could control the wind ever so slightly while sailing, using their magic to speed up their boat by a little bit.

Fire magic users can cook single ingredients without a cooking pot in a pinch, but only one at a time, and only at a “decent” level. (Maybe this improves with cooking level too?)

Water magic users can fish without a rod by manipulating the water they’re in front of, but this can only catch small fish.

Light magic users can exude a small amount of their magic energy to make a flashlight. (This could also work underwater, making diving a little more fun?)

Maybe wood magic users can use repair hammers without supplies, but at the downside of it repairing only as much as a basic repair hammer?

Since really, what’s stopping mages from using their magic as a sort of tool? And sure, a lot of these have favored options, such as cooking pots or better repair hammers, but that’s the point, these are just meant to be used in a pinch if you ever need to.

Several issues
First, if we want the magics to be balanced, each would need one utility. At the very least, less used ones should get one over the more used ones.
Second, the range of usefulness of these is pretty wild. Fire and water ones, for instance, are worthless, but free unlimited repair supplies?
Third, honestly feature bloat. If these are meant to be so underpowered they only have a use in very niche situations, why even add them? Why would you ever need to urgently cook 1 mushroom? Why would you choose to lock yourself out of any useful fish instead of using a rod?

1: Well yeah that’s kind of what I was going for

2: Well it’s only if YOU use the hammer, and it only repairs as much as a basic one, meaning bigger boats have to spend hours repairing.

3: I dunno man I just wanted to add something to make the game feel more lifelike and I feel like newer players coming to the game would think “woah, this is actually kind of cool!”, if you want to make a suggestion inspired off this by all means go ahead

These ARE inherently meant to make the game a little less imposing on newer players, letting them get basic supplies, get around faster, or cook things quicker to have a slightly better food option since they’ll likely only have 5 oranges, 2 apples, and some grass they found in a box

I still don’t see why though.
To not make wind’s bonus too much, the increase would probably have to be 1-2 extra speed, which really isn’t much help at all, even to a freshie.
Water utility is just downright useless as one of the first side quests in the game gives you a fishing rod which is better in all aspects.
Fire utility is also useless, since cooking pots can be found on practically every island, and raw foods aren’t terrible either. In fact, oranges, for one, are better raw.
Light magic one is useful, but it’s also the same as an already added paid emote. Though, that’s not really an issue on your but from the devs’ part.

The primary issue, though, is that by level 60-80, the player is certainly no longer a freshie. They definitely have a fishing rod, a repair hammer, a lantern and a ship with quite enough speed already.

i remember when magic taunt/flaunt was supposed to be able to do this (fire maigc lights up a torch, water magic filling empty cup etc.), as well as puzzles that require certain magics/elemental to complete

i miss WoM

eh… I see these as bloat.

Why would it unlock SO late when everything you’ve unlocked up to that point solves a majority of the problems the magics are supposedly given utilities to solve?

No, the speed would be far too low to be beneficial.

Why?
Even a simple cooking pot at the first town is better than this, it’s more of a pain than a gain to cook one food every single time for the very slight benefit of decent level.

Good concept, horrible execution; why only small fish? who would want to catch small fish?

eh.. all light emitting magics should’ve been able to do this.

On what world would you ever want to repair a ship with a basic repair hammer?

I know twin…

I miss it too…

Idea sounds good, however I’m unsure if its a good thing to add, I like how you came up with light, which probably is easiest.

Not sure about this one, I’m afraid of how people would try to abuse farm it, or anything else like it.

the wood, in lore, would disappear quickly
the reason keraxe is so powerful is that wotan, with his curse, can create permanent wood

i mean yeah, magic element-specific abilities can’t really be a thing in AO
maybe make some rlly small costmetic changes or smth?

I feel like this is just too extra and not really needed, some of these are really useless and very situational
