Ik they’re not out yet but here’s my take on them.
Loremaster
Occasionally generates treasure charts of their rarity tier. This might happen once every 15-20 minutes.
Jeweler
They have jewelcraft skill equal to their rarity tier, you can just hand them a gem and they will craft it over the course of a certain amount of time, which is sped up by defeating ships or picking up lost cargo. They will use random reagents but it’s entirely free if you put in the effort.
Pillager
When you destroy a ship, an extra sealed chest as well as more normal chests spawn
Locksmith
Can open one sealed chest for you while on ship. This will recharge in 10 minutes so you can’t just unload your entire haul. After 10 minutes they will say that their lockpicking tools are ready. Once you go back to a civilized island with a shipwright, they will say that they resupplied on lockpicking tools, which skips the delay
Hunter
They will point out nearby sharks, and maybe even highlight them since “shark below us” is pretty nondescript. For sea monsters, they will say “White eyes spotted between Harvest Island and Silverhold” or “Poison Jaws seen between Ravenna and Wind-Row Island” or something like that, regardless of distance. Won’t point out every sea monster. To make it worth it, having a hunter will greatly boost droprates on all non-human creatures
All of these seem good to me.
Though, maybe for the “Hunter” profession, a menu that decides which Sharks/Sea Monsters are pointed out independently of distance may be appropriate?
Was gonna leave a paragraph on buffing it to either 5 minutes or 7.5 minutes, or adding in a destruction chance. I’m just gonna ask to make this automatic as it wouldn’t make sense for them to wait for you to specifically bring the sealed chest to them. There should be an additional small delay before a random sealed chest is opened, maybe with some visual for this.
I think locksmith should be a “while ship is not moving” instead of “every 10 minutes”
so mabey make it smth like 5 minutes of no sailing to open one chest (timer doesen’t reset between stop/go)
I like all of these, but have minor issues with some. The Loremaster would be nice, but I feel like it’d be tossed aside like how people are already dogging on the Merchant profession. Jeweler is nice, but I feel like they should have higher odds of getting the best secondary effects and can have reagents handed to them, so that there’s an actual reason to use them over jewelcrafting by hand. Pillager is so simple, but it’s a good one. I liked the idea of a Quartermaster somebody posted that would do the same job as Locksmith, but both are well-balanced enough.
