Okay, so, this one’s more of a personal idea, honestly, but I feel like it’d help the game feel more full of life.

The game tries to take itself.. maybe a little TOO seriously? So much lore, and bloodshed, with little to nothing else inherently with it.

So.. why not add more humor? Sure there’s probably some already in it, but nothing that’d be memorable, or even understood as a joke.

Now, I’m not saying the game should just be all jokes and laughs and stuff.. but like, come on man, throw some inside jokes in there or something, add a 1% chance for iris to turn green or something, add hidden joke easter eggs that’d reward exploration.

I’m just saying, take inspiration from.. Pilgrammed, for example, the game has its serious moments, and plenty of lore, and is even a similar open world concept, and yet it has its jokes, whether hidden, or obvious and out in the open.

I think the game could afford to be more whimsical in some ways

Just adding a bunch of random shit like Iris turning green would not be funny

You don’t want to break immersion[1] with humorous elements

  1. Not the game’s current brand of immersion where the assumption is made that “realism” is immersive ↩︎

Yeah the world is too grim and too dark it needs love and jokes and happy

i’d give 1 star for effort but i’ll just put 2 to be nice

i agree the game should be more whimsical in certain aspects, but the examples such as iris turning green aren’t very good. easter eggs like shadowbear the cat (it’s a questline but still) in the halloween event could work :+1:

I think it’s a truth that we should get some humors around.

Not like iris turning greeen, but like undertale/deltarunes humor scenes I think? You can put theses on cutscenes, or npc dialogue so they feel a lot more alive and having other than just quest giver moment.

While being in cruel world, we have to put some happy moments to feel the fall, as we wont cry on some random dying around.

No humour in MY GRIMDARK, EDGY, WARTORN world!!!

only PAIN only SUFFERING only WAR!!!

Being dark all the time isnt actually dark, its just nothing.

There HAS TO BE a light to FEEL the darkness!

The only light are the BURNING EXPLOSIONS FROM WARFARE

Yes but also the suggestion is a nothingburger

A good example is the :fr: in Palo Town ig

Do feel like the game takes itself a little too seriously considering the fact its both a roblox game and a magic game (its not close to being dark fantasy nor can it really go that way as its on roblox)

your examples arent really that great, would rather have humor in the environment, or just have npc dialogue reference one another (something like a grand navy npc talking about a fake contract they put out to lure out assasins, and then somewhere else a npc talking about getting the first contract ever, both talking about the same name on the contract)

tis the WAR sea, kid, my game priortize REALISM above ALL else, kid (and as we all know theres no such thing as happiness and joy in the real world), go play blox fruit or something if you want any of them soft stuffs, kid :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

bro thinks ao is at deltarune storytelling

Would be cool seeing some references and unexpected behaviour but 1% for Iris Turning green ruins the Lore.

Add Jokes/References but don’t make them disrupt the lore.

more whimsy like the mimhere island references and other easter eggs would be cool

lowk AO needs stuff like people who died in absurd places exploring islands
and a lot more whimsy yeah, both fantasy whimsy and just whimsy

put a dead white hooded figure next to a pile of hay

AO tries so hard to be a mysterious and dark world that it kind of falls flat on its face because it feels like the plot takes itself way too seriously for a roblox game

Humor is an excellent and easy to implement narrative device to make the “grim” moments more impactful; it could add the much needed contrast that this “immersive” slog of an ocean desperately needs. On that note, can we also have better pacing? Skyhall genuinely felt too fast for me and Ravenna was so slow I felt my hair turn grey

this exactly
dark elements in a somewhat humorous story will subvert the reader/player’s expectations of a goofy pirate game and makes the dark bits hit way harder

undertale does something like this, starting off pretty goofy and throwing in a bunch of humor but later revealing a lot of darker elements, such as six people, heavily implied to be children, being dead and their souls just sitting in cold storage, revealed to the player in their respective containers alongside one empty container meant to house yours
