Currently, as far as I know, the only methods of generating light to walk through dark areas are torches, and waist lanterns. That is the extent of options, as far as lights you can carry with you go. I want to suggest both cosmetic alternatives, and options that simply produce more light.
Non-Cosmetic Options
As alternatives to torches, I think brighter lanterns could reasonably be big enough that they would get in the way if you attached them like a waist lantern.
As an alternative to waist lanterns, on the other hand, I suggest some kind of fixture holding a piece of Arcanium (which should, in lore, have some kind of trait that makes it unsuitable for purposes other than creating light, but could possibly have minor effects on temperature, for some elements. If such effects are included, the Arcanium lanterns should probably not be restricted to only dropping as the elements you have a magic of)
Cosmetic Options
Candles could likely work as a variant of torches, without different levels of light being produced
For lanterns, there could be a number of different designs, without changing anything else to a significant degree.
Reasons for adding
Only having torches and one specific type of lantern is not reflective of the number of cultures that exist in the war seas
If models, or whatever objects ingame are based on can be accessed with little effort, adding cosmetic variants should not require much effort
With different cultures developing different light sources, some kind of competition in making brighter ones feels like it would happen, in-universe
Some places, both currently existing ones, and probably ones yet to be added, are very dark, and having brighter light sources would make them less frustrating to navigate
AN
I know that I don’t have all that many specific ideas here, so I would like it, if people were to add their own suggestions for light sources, both cosmetic variants, and others, here.
Fairly sure Arcanium is not a good material for candles, but if you want to, I guess you can try making something like that?
Also, attaching a candle to yourself seems like something you shouldn’t be doing, unless you are very heat resistant, and fireproof.
Still shouldn’t have severe effects. The only ones I think should be included are the minor temperature related ones, for a reason.
(If a piece of Arcanium can be weaponised, very few people would make it into a Light Source)
If that was, in fact, a joke, I am sorry for responding so seriously, but I feel like I shouldn’t chance that for my first suggestion
Eh sure, has my vote, would like to have an option for a directional lantern where you can hold it out and it’s super bright and long towards a specific direction.
So, a flashlight, but made with a setting-appropriate technology level?
Not sure how that would be made, but it could probably be a spyglass with a light source not based on fire inside, and only one transparent end.
Have an opening and have a reflective metal or something inside to reflect the light bouncing around back out of the lantern’s singular opening. There could be tiers to this where higher quality ones have a brighter and longer range for the light, whereas lower quality ones are just a regular lantern but with extended range towards one direction.
This idea makes so much sense that it would be surprising if similar concepts arent already in the works, but because i dont know that they are planned for sure, you have my vote.
