The title. How come magicks arent more unique and differentiated from each other. I dont mean like major differences, but maybe like a unique move or ability per magic or something?
I get how in WoM the point of making the magics all similar was for balancing, but with the addition of routes like Weapons that are all unique with their own mechanics, im just confused as to why Magic can’t be the same with each magic maybe having something special to it. It would also give higher incentive for a second magic as you’d be unlocking a new ability.
Lost/Ancient Magics will probably each have a gimmick
Weapons will all be different because each weapon is different. All magics are basically the same thing, other than status effects and appearance.
I stopped reading here.
Ok
3-4 months till AO
24 magics on release
Lost scrolls
Improved effects
And you want all magics to have their own move???
Mf just get a lost spell scroll and be done with it quit tryna act special
rare, lost, and ancient spells are what bring that uniqueness and there is an incentive to have a second magic whether ur a hybrid or especially if ur a mage.
there’s loads of new things u can do with ur second magic that ur single one magic couldn’t hope to achieve alone. it’s quite literally obtaining new combos and skill trees essentially along with broadening playstyles and giving new play styles
in terms of uniqueness for magic it’s gotten itself pretty covered
The uniqueness of AO is its customisation doing this would counter it
Agreed, I’m tired of the “magics are too similar” argument
I understand peoples stance on it but I’ll never agree
alright, weapons have unique skills but magics dont.
however, do you expect a sword you fire an arrow when you swing it?
with magic, you control it. thats the reason why you can make the abilities, and with weapons you can only unlock them. by mastering your magic and reading spell scrolls you learn how to make newer spell types and choosing which ones you want to use for your magic, thereby making it unique.
weapons are pre-made items. you always buy them at shops, stores, or someone gifts it to you. unless you make it yourself, you cant make the abilities that the weapon has.
I feel like when their options get more fleshed out people will think otherwise. A high intensity/magic size mage with Ash will play very differently to an attack speed/power conjuror with Fire.
When all we really got rn (as in WoM) is a blast-focused meta with only two stats being anything valued it leads to staleness among magics (since all that’s different is what damage/speed/size your magic has). When the game has more options and magics can properly feel more fleshed out at higher levels people will probably feel less about magics just being copy and paste versions of each other.
I feel like base magics don’t need to be advanced , just a unique status effect is good, Same with losts. even with just that, That’s a ton of magic interactions that need programming, and if all of them had a unique gimmick, it would be even more work. Ancients and a few losts should have a gimmick of course, but the rest of the magics already have a ton of interactions, and the eventual addition of lost spells will make every single players moveset unique. I do not think magic needs more uniqueness
Definitely, iirc vetex used to talk about how exhausting and tedious it tends to be when making unique moves for each magic (back in Arcane Adventures). So that’s probably why the customization is the way it is now, and lost spell scrolls add the uniqueness that was lost with this change.
i’m hyped for stats besides power, defense and bursting being able to anything useful
Rn my rough outline of a build uses agility/attack speed as it’s primary stats with power and defense being second. Obviously things can change (for instance the game ain’t even out) but this is a rough idea of how I want it.
I already use agility (mino set) and not using it feels weird as fuck.
These are all fair points, but hear me out. Have you guys thought about
