Berserker → Brawler
Explanation: in both fantasy and historical contexts, berserkers are fierce warriors who use weapons like axes and dane axes. Instead, the class should be renamed to Brawler, which is someone who gets into close quarters fights a lot.
Conjurer → Enchanter
Explanation: Enchanters already exist in arcane odyssey and they apply magic to objects, just like how a Conjurer does.
Warlock → Shaman
Explanation: in other mmo’s like world of warcraft for example, Shamans use fighting styles or gauntlets imbued with magic. This makes more sense than warlock, and sounds better.
Paladin → Theurgist
Explanation: Theurgy is defined as performing magic with the aid of spirits. Literally perfect.
Warlord → Duelist
Explanation: either keep warlord or rename it to duelist. Most duels persist of using weapons and martial arts.
Knight → Paladin
Explanation: Holy/divine weapon users are usually called paladins in most games.
Juggernaut → Monk
Explanation: someone who imbues holy/divine/spirit energy onto fighting styles in mmo’s is called a Monk.
Notes:
Just so y’all know, Vitality isn’t about a health boost, it’s about control of spirit energy.
I am open to suggestions for Warlock and Conjurer, these are the hardest classes to give names to
The problem I have with Enchanter is that the magic of enchanting and the magic of imbuing are completely different. Calling both an enchanter would not make sense in the world whatsoever.
There is a similar issue with Monk, where they exist in Sameria, but they don’t seem to all have spirit weapons.
Shaman and Warlock make about equal sense. I’ve seen fist-fighting warlocks in rpgs, and I’ve seen shamans who are very ranged and squishy. I wouldn’t complain about this change.
Changing Knight to Paladin, or anything to another thing we already have is just a recipe for confusion.
I dislike Warlord to Duelist mostly because of the historical connotations (usually having A LOT to do with weapons) and the fantasy media (D&D, Pathfinder, PoE all portray them as agile and fragile weapon users). I think Warlord works better. Some suggestions that I wouldn’t complain about are Gladiator and not much else. Gladiator also has the weapon connotation, but less so, and exudes more of a muscular vibe.
Berserker to Brawler I wouldn’t complain about if it were added. It has a historical use of referring to angry drunkards, and usually refers to more casual combatants, but it would make sense for fist fights. It is probably a better name, but I personally prefer Berserker because less change makes it less confusing.
Paladin to Theurgist. Seen this one often before. I like it a lot better than Priest or Cleric. I think this is the only name change that I have ever seen that I wholeheartedly agree with.
