Before you get the wrong impression,I’m not talking about sandbox and lifesim games being bad, most that I’ve played are really fun and I like them very much.
But the problem I’m talking about is whenever I play a sandbox or a life sim game I get burnout quick and I don’t want to play it anymore.
Let me give an example, recently a friend recommended I play stardew valley so I bought it and the game is amazing.I can definitely see why people like it.
Anyways I played it,enjoyed my time with it,then when I stopped playing it and went to go do something else I almost never want to go back and play it when I’ve only played for like 7 hours of the game.
And I don’t even know why I decided to stop playing it too.I had goals that I was looking forward to do in the game like doing some of the quests and filling out the baskets for the community centre. But I just stop playing it and it sucks.
Stardew valleys not the only example, I’ve played games like Minecraft(single player),terraria, the sims 4,animal crossing new leaf and new horizons. And I love all of these games yet I get a handful of hours into them and I decide to quit when I’m nowhere near close to the endgame.Sandbox is the only genre of games that I quit midway through without beating the game.
Anyways I made this post to maybe get some tips on how to handle this problem so if anyone has any feel free to share.
I’m planning on replaying Animal crossing new leaf soon and hoping that I can actually get close to the end of the game without quitting again.
You might just be a goal-based person. Obvious objectives n quests n whatnot. Not a bad thing, I am very much the same, and find it hard to make objectives or goals for myself. The only exception that I found is a game called Bannerlord. Very fun game but it’s also a sandbox. I got 200+ hours in the game so far. I would have more but I took a break (was playing beta a lot and waited for full release) and now I am trying to figure out why my games keep crashing (seemingly random but at the same time consistent, been spending a few hours so far trying to find the cause; the life of someone who mods Bannerlord)
I’m probably that type of person, like in Minecraft sometimes I have no idea what to do even though there’s lots of stuff to do.Like I build a mediocre house then do some mining but that’s about it.
Tbh I agree with all of the points above, though I’ve experienced this problem less with terraria because there is a definite boss progression you can follow, it’s just the fact that the game isn’t very clear about teaching it.
Yea that’s one problem I have with terraria.I just have no idea where to go or what to do I find the game just isn’t good at telling you what’s next to do in my opinion.
