My view on AO’s boss fights

I think what’s kinda sucky is that you parry the axe but still take damage after. At least if the time between pulses were long enough it would be alright but you get punished, even if mildly for parrying what is supposed to be a parried attack.

i think you can parry it 5 times in a row since all the timings are the same, i honestly prefer just tanking the blocked damage since its not that high and i can get back to spamming m1s. you could definitely optimize this more

Cool. Why he is tame in this one though?

I’m cool with Jarl if he not a fricking Story Boss. Story Boss shouldn’t be made this hard. if it something optional like King Caesar or Leviathan? Sure.

his attacks are also really creative and unique too, much more so than like all the other bosses, the only issue is that its hard to tell when youre in such a small arena

I dont have problem if his attack dont cover the whole arena. Like I can parry and beat him but full area damage aint what I can call good

thats just fighting your average metal mage to be fair

Honestly it was my favorite story boss fight aside from phase 1

Not that tame, he did the nuke move 3 times. Honestly the move i struggle with the most is the metal slash, that move has like 0 windup but it does only do 230 or so to balance it out

i knew there were more of us

4k evidence of ivar stacking his dumb purple burst on top of other attacks

nope

yeah im not counting the seconds when calvus fires his array, there should’ve been a tell that they’re going to shoot

I was prepared to be fighting Ivar for hours cause I was lurking in this thread… Im not really good at blocking or reacting because my game is slow so I thought I was done for!

I spammed all of my spells and ended up ending him in 45 seconds with a single annihilation, a ghost, and an elemental… I think I overprepped by grinding out for lost spells & knowledge and doing the story about a month after it was released. I dont think I deserve the win because I feel like I was the one who stat checked him

bosses just need to behave like regular ai instead of them just jumping to a random point using 3 moves then going to the next, the only bosses that dont do this are shura iris carina and argos.

It’s not like elden ring where you can only fight the boss once per playthrough, if you feel like you missed out on the full experience try giving yourself little challenges and fighting him again. Like removing all your armor, or only using one spell, or never using the dash key, or only using m1s, or doing them all at once. Also, preparing before a fight and steamrolling the boss is fun in its own way, though i like doing that after i’ve beaten him a few times regularly.

Place a camp and do a challenge run, i want to know someone else’s experience with it lol

This is good advice! I would try it if I had real skill in this game and didn’t rely on my fun flashy attacks…

Sounds interesting, but Ivar lags my game like crazy so I feel like it would be painful again. Maybe I’ll try him again without conjure elemental

fun flashy attacks are half the fun of the game fr. about the lag, i get the same thing when i try alot of bosses but turning my graphics quality to 2 always make it perform alot better, and you don’t even lose that much detail. i think maybe the particle detail or amount is too high on higher graphics

I literally never considered turning down graphics, that would’ve made calvus or allanon way easier lol…

I use water magic, so particles ain’t the problem, think ill try allanon with lower graphics with perhaps no dashing… might show me a new way to approach ao yknow?

Allanon is suprisingly easy for me because i utilize sensing to see him through those large vfx and debris

You basically just mean the bosses need better telegraphing and you are 100% correct.
