My worries about Shadow [and Light]

I’m a Shadow user, and probably forever will be as far as I’m concerned. I’ve kept a single character since AA, starting as Shadow, as well as WoM, my first character being a max level Shadow wizard.

Shadow is awesome; It looks cool, sounds cool, and feels awesome to use. Better yet, the stats on the thing are really good than what I had thought before. It’s basically above average in speed, damage, and everything else. I’m fine to work without a gimmick because of how good Shadow is as a base magic :shadow_magic:. Light was my second pick in AA, but I’m straying away from it. It also looks and feels awesome, but…

I have several issues and worries about choosing it, which also involve Shadow. I love them both so much, but I had to go with the former. Sorry, Light :light_magic_var1: :light_magic_var2:. This brings me to talk about things I don’t feel bright about Shadow (And light, but I’ll be talking about Shadow. They’re both the same Magic mechanically); this nagging dread keeps growing and I just have to address it or i’ll go insane.

Shadow as a base magic is very nice, but there are a couple of things that I have issues with. Will it actually combo with another magic, or are you going to be using your other magics forever for favorable combos? I can’t figure out how magic could be used in any sort of combo, because everything just seems so much better. My main next few magics I want to have under my belt is Ice and Lunar, for a stun-lock combo, but where does Shadow come in all this? :ice_magic_var1: :ice_magic_var2:

I also don’t think Shadow is inherently good for PvP, even though I know there are some people who do well with Shadow. I feel like you’ll be mechanically focused on your movement and placement in battle than the mechanics of your magic, while as you’ll know how to weave around an element like Earth, or Fire into your favor. It’s difficult to match other magics with there concrete style of fighting, adding on to their gimmick. Lightning, Ash, Magma, and Iron are just a few examples of magics that dominate Shadow. :lightning_magic_var1: :iron_magic_var1: :magma_magic:

Between a Blast, it just depends on Clashing, or actually hitting your shots. Shadow comes with good damage, but so do the others, as well as there valuable tick damage. I don’t think about explosions, because honestly I have tried to see how I could out-trade somebody with an explosion or placed explosion. It’s hard, I have to focus on constantly evading and missing the chance to fire back because of how aggressive the enemy is, while my magic is mediocre against PvP. :fr:

And what the hell am I suppose to use primarily for my spells? I use literally everything except for Pillar because it feels and looks awkward to use. My blasts consist of double shots and my explosions are either a triple shot self or a double shot placed. I work on Casting Speed because that all I can think that will work. It’s engraved in my head that whoever casts first wins. It’s becoming a habit that whenever someone has the jump on me, I already consider myself dead, or at least, losing the battle.

am i just bad at pvp

I LOVE Shadow, I really do, but it hurts to see me and my little boy being torn apart. :frcryin:

i think shadow and light are fine as it is specially the blinding mechanics in it (a npc with light hit me 5 times and i fr cant see). but i do think shadow is kind of a second thought and would like the previous withering effect in it. Aside for that i think pvp wise the 2 magic are really good specially light having the fastest magic in game

Don’t use Casting Speed yet, it’s broken.
Also, I am sure you will get Darkness (Lost Magic) or Death (Primordial Curse) as they are close to Shadow magic and better.

I don’t want you to lose hope on those magics yet, the game is just out and you will see your magic become what you wanted them to be.

The interactions will not change (Shadow will be getting a better effect on its drain in the future, mostly visually affect the player like light does.)

Good luck!

Thank you for reading

Shadow’s mechanic literally pales in comparison to anything but it keeps up with base stats. I have no idea how to work around it.

this makes me feel like getting shadow was a mistake lowkey… but yeah, the game is still fresh out the box, i do wonder what will be in store for my boy

Just clear one more thing, Withering is not for shadow anymore.
Other magic will be having it instead

Fr tho I sympathize so much with this as an AA Shadow user. I wish it had clouds like Ash and Poison but it blinded you and made Light unable to pass (as with Poison clouds). I’ve moved to another edgy magic (Ash), but will forever hold Shadow in my heart. I still have my beta 4 Shad file

I’m still iffy about combinations, and what enchants actually do things, unless I need to scrap everything and go for a boring power/whatever build…

I want to find a sweet spot for Shadow.

I have two files. One is Lightning and another is Shadow. You can see why the former is max level while the latter is only level 42.

Shadow and Light feel a lot like standalone elements to me, however it certainly would make for interesting scenarios if combining both blinds from Shadow and Light would produce some unique effect.

Putting Shadow and Light together is Counterproductive, which isn’t good…

Primordial magics aren’t curses. Also, by putting text in a quote box, people will assume you are quoting someone.

It’s my way of speaking and people understand it more.
Also, Death is considered a Curse. Not Sea or Fire Curse, Normal Curse Skills can be made with it.

Death MAGIC.
Just because it has cursed skill types doesn’t make it a curse.

  • Using quote blocks for non-quotes is confusing
  • Using quote blocks for important (non-quote) information makes it easier to understand.

not gonna lie this is why I kinda want shadows effect to be buffed in an insignificant way, as in it would decrease all, and I mean all stats by a fraction, since you’re well… ‘drained’ and not achromatopsic

and damn I would freaking love if the pillar would have its visuals slightly changed cause these 5 shadow pillar things that look weird and seem even weirder when you try to figure out where their point of contact is etc.

theres a chance that shadow’s side effect could be used to an advantage in the future when lost magics/primordials come out where some of those magics like death magic could synergize for more damage or something alike. For now I see it as another light that has less speed but gets stronger base damage and doesn’t really lose or win against anything

Shadow was never meant to stand out in a particular field or have synergy with other magics. Its fast, damaging, destructive, and has good clash rates. If you’re suggesting shadow gets a buff then you are asking for WAY too much. Its fine as is

Facts… …

I believe Vetex said in a tweet that Darkness will have wither (Shadow’s old Arcane Adventure effect.)

All magics are supposed to have around the same stats though. Saying that shadow isnt meant to stand out is implying that other magics are, which is false.
