Here's an explanation
DanTDM does so in order to obtain more money. Specifically, he does so by targetting both an older and a younger audience, one with nostalgia and the other with kid-friendly content. This is exploitation.
Meanwhile, those who would watch it would do so in order to escape from their lives ever so slightly in order to feel better, to relax. This is escapism.
Please don’t hit me with the “Entertainment isn’t escapism!”. It is, and always has been.

While I am aware that this topic -and most of its comment- were made for the sake of light-heartedness and humour, I made one opposing it with heavy-heartedness for the sake of humour.
Seeing two opposites referring to the same media (dark souls) is, in my thoughts, quite silly.
As for the explanation, you asked for one.
