little idea i came up with earlier so might as well put it into a suggestion
New logbook entry for all of the stuff you can find around the world, not sure what it could be titled, either “ingredients” or “materials” or something along those lines.
Basically, as you can see in the idea I quoted, There would be entries for every Reagent and Catalyst that will, if undiscovered, be blacked out and tell you how its obtained. Once you obtain it, it gets entered into the logbook with a little flavor text about how its formed/how its used, and then explains what it does gameplay wise. For example,
(before discovery)
“Undiscovered - Obtained from erupting underwater volcanoes”
(after discovery)
“Dolomite”
(can click on it now to bring up info screen with a picture of it)
“Dolomite is a rare catalyst formed when super-heated lava is rapidly cooled, leaving a light-weight volcanic glass on the ocean surface. It can be used to create Orbshot.” (basically just copied what I saw about how pumice is formed, and I agree it should be renamed to Pumice like @BlueFighter15 apparently suggested since dolomite has nothing to do with volcanoes and is instead when Magnesium-rich groundwater moves through limestone or lime mud)
Unlocking every entry could give an “Alchemist” title or something.
Now that I think about it, wasn’t this supposed to exist in the Athena Pages but just wasn’t added (or maybe I didn’t get that page)? I remember seeing smth similar in the sneak peek
Overall this would make a decent addition to the game, given that even small mechanics like animals have a “collection” UI. And it would basically add the wiki page into the game itself to a degree meaning* you dont have to consistently tab out to look things up.
You pissing could also indirectly lead to it, that’s not the point though
There’s no chance you’ll find freshly made dolomite after an eruption due to the difference in how they’re made.
Sedimentary rocks take a long time to form. They’re a mass of various minerals that gets stuck together for a long while and are compressed with time into an inseparable mixture.
(Rough summary, but that’s basically it. Sediments are layers of mineral pile-up, pretty much.)
Pumice is made when rock so hot it melts gets shot up into the atmosphere, and the sudden drop in temperature causes the mass to solidify so quickly, the trapped gas bubbles can’t leave, forming a hollow rock.
More importantly, dolomite is like most rocks, density-wise. It sinks in water like a rock, literally.
Pumice, thanks to its hollow form, is one of the very few rocks capable of floating.
