He probably put low-opacity on his paint brush tool and did an over-lap of the two colors.

Nope, paintbrush tool or pencil tool. Lower the opacity and colors will blend together wherever you draw

Canopy most likely cause he is expanding north
I am personally thinkin’ Rockhollow because I know Canopian-areas are supposed to have wild animals, according to the NPC’s in the game, and I think Vetex would be reluctant to make such an area considerin’ we haven’t ever seen him make any animals yet (other than just retextured fish models)
