The Arctic Skywatcher is an Aberration Class sea monster that spawns more frequently the further north you go. A passive beast that damages ships by it’s own presence, it is usually a nuisance. If disturbed, it quickly becomes a much larger threat.
Appearance
An Arctic Skywatcher has a flat, disc shaped main body, on top of which rests a gigantic eye. The eye is pale yellow in colouration and the pupil is a thin vertical slit. Equally spaced out are 4 arms, similar to a starfish, that lay resting by its side, covered in ice as protective armour. At the base of these arms are smaller, secondary eyes. The Arctic Skywatcher possesses no visible mouth, and sports a series of tubes that line its arms, which constantly expel currents of freezing water.
Arctic Skywatchers drift along with the currents, feeding off of ambient magical energy in the Dark Sea. In particular, they have an affinity for the colder magics, mainly ice and snow. By using their tubes as filtration systems, they absorb such magics from the waters of the Dark Sea. These tubes also help keep it afloat, providing a sort of jet propulsion system. However, a side effect of this is that minor icebergs and glaciers will form around these creatures, and the hull of a ship might begin to frost over.
Combat
The Arctic Skywatcher possesses 800 hitpoints.
While the Skywatchers are normally completely disinterested in Ships, being shot will quickly force them to action. Primarily, they will ram a ship, but they’ll also begin using heavy amounts of ice magic, freezing the surface of the water and causing blizzards. By spinning rapidly, some are able to create large icicles that impale ships above them.
Loot
Killing a Skywatcher results in it dropping:
85% 1-3 Arctic Skywatcher eyes, which when consumed insulate someone against cold temperatures, preventing them from reaching freezing levels.
55% 2-7 Arctic Skywatcher meat, which can be cooked to offer around 30 hunger points and Vitality II.
This one’s a bit of a 3AM thought, but I’m happy with it as is. Suggestions are welcome.
