Noticeable performance issues on the forums as of late

Some other users and I have noticed some performance issues on the forums over the last two days or so, and they seem to be getting worse.

I’ve noticed this most in my topic linked here (Forum Curses: It's Not My Dream Anymore), I can see some new replies from other users, but not all of them and when I refresh the page, new replies can appear further up in the chronology.

Example:
Before Refreshing Page

User1: Hi guys! This has been such an arcane adventure.

User2: I know right. This arcane adventure in this world of magic.

User 1: Let’s go yap in RFAO

After refreshing the page, new messages appear in places they weren’t before:

User1: Hi guys! This has been such an arcane adventure.

User 3: I love Arcane Odyssey!

User2: I know right. This arcane adventure in this world of magic.

User3: Can anyone see my messages?

User 1: Let’s go yap in RFAO

Naturally when trying to have a conversation with multiple people at the same time, this can make it difficult since users occasionally get ignored entirely since their messages are slow to update with everyone else.

I’m also noticing some bad performance in other areas such as accessing topics.

I’ve made this topic so other users who I’ve spoken to can add their own info since I’ve checked and this isn’t a me-only thing. Bad performance like this isn’t usually the best omen for the forum’s stability.

@Misinput @Headless thanks guys!

yeah I agree the connection has been dogshit on the forums specifically, everywhere else is fine but it’s been super bad

Never really paid much attention to it before, but I will say it does feel slower to load into posts and by extension back into the topics page

I’ve seen the same issues randomness has described, reloading to see new messages appear behind different messages i had already seen when reloading

I can also go to topic, read, go to different topic, and the topic i just read says i have a few messages i have not read yet even though i already read those messages, i essentially have to be within the topic and reload at the same time in order to have the forums count as me having read those messages

ive not got a lot to add, i can just vouch for the statements of others

although, another thing is often i will have some notifications, i will go to them, but the notification marker stays, but when i click my pfp the notifications are cleared

Also, I appear to be noticing worsened performance with notifications updating and the searchbar.

Also forgot to mention which i am now experiencing again

sometimes when i go through and check all my notifications, the number for how many notifications there are doesn’t actually change on occasion (has been going on for a bit longer than the more recent connection issues)

the notification number also persists when going through multiple other threads until i refresh the page

I’ve also had to refresh when in the tl3 chat in order to even get new messages in most cases.

And an example:

Yeah this is the same here. I can’t seem to clear New & Unread Topics for whatever reason; I go all the way to the bottom of the post but nothing changes.

Same here.

For what it’s worth, I am also experiencing this.
At first, I thought Flare had just gotten even fatter, but it persists when they’re not around and it’s getting annoying.

Flare was eating all of the performance issues for us… He died a hero :face_holding_back_tears:

I just went to the home page and it said that a topic had been updated… it was me replying just before…

AO so unoptimized it’s seeping into it’s forums :sob:

I’ve personally haven’t had any direct issues similarly to the one you state in the original message, only a variant of it in TL3 with it not updating till a few minutes later.

This I have noticed though, I had an active “Like” notification for an hour’s time… which shouldn’t make sense as it cleared a “Reply” notification immediately.

dont really know if anyone will see this, and even if they do i dont know if this is possible, but could the issue be helped by something like automatically completely deleting old dead topics below a certain interaction threshold?

for example, if a topic has been dead for over six months and has less than 100 replies, it gets nuked

maybe the requirements would be different across each of the categories but idk

There is some weird noticable “lag” when I try to use the forums. Strange indeed.

Didn’t the forums start lagging like this around the same time the server space for image uploads ran out?

Joking
