Now is probably a good time to bring up duels, huh?

I vaguely recall duels being a feature listed on the Trello a while ago, although I can’t find it now. Maybe it was scrapped, or maybe it’s already a feature and it’s just that no one uses it???

Regardless, now seems like as good a time as any to bring it up again, given the ongoing flamewar over whether or not PvPers are literally worse than Satan. They’re not, by the way, but regardless of who’s right in this situation, with how loud people on both sides are getting, I don’t think it would be wise to just do nothing.

With that being said; I think duels have the potential to be a decent compromise for pretty much everyone, depending on how they’re implemented. It doesn’t necessarily have to punish initiating random encounters (and you could make the argument that it shouldn’t), but I do feel like there should, at the very least, be some way to incentivize initiating duels over simply jumping people, to minimize instances of people getting ganked when it wouldn’t typically be deemed necessary to do so.

I have my own ideas, but this isn’t the Suggestions page. Also I really just want to see everyone else’s thoughts on this more anyway.

Make duels an option when you click a player’s name on the leaderboard. You have to be within 100 studs of them, and at full HP to do so. The sending player can enter a “bet” to be applied. If the opposing player accepts the duel, the bet amount is extracted from both players. This bet can be in either galleons or reputation. Then, after a 3-second countdown, the players are set to be in ‘dealing’ mode.

While in dueling mode, the following effects take place:

  • The players cannot deal or take damage from outside sources. Including other players or NPCs.
  • Both players receive the combat tag.
  • Things like Navy Spawns due to Notoriety would be disabled.
  • If the players aren’t in a party together, their HP bars are displayed on the side of the screen as if they were.
  • Notification sounds are disabled. Nobody likes being pinged for a GM chain about Argos’s feet anyways.

The duel ends when a player is dropped to 0 HP, when one leaves, or if the duel goes on for longer than 5 minutes. If there’s a winning player (the one still alive and in the game), they are awarded the bet of both players.

The losing player does not respawn. Rather, their HP is restored to full and they are kept in the same spot. They keep their charts, their ship is not set to despawn, and they don’t lose anything not agreed to be lost from the duel.

clearly you forgot that once roblox tags you as dead (hitting 0 hp), being healed through any means does not work and you respawn anyways.
it would have to be set so duels dont allow you to drop below 1 hp.
im pretty sure this is how the dark sea revival mechanic works, the first time you get downed you don’t drop to 0 hp, rather 1.

It’s a concept. I’ll leave the technical know-how to Vetex.

me need, i don’t like searching for people to fight, my issue is in every other game ive been in, i get called bad for running what i want (type soul as a medic and quincy, litterally just playing as a zoner or not going for combo’s, “movespammer”)
