Proposal

Add additional vfx, sfx, and animations to telegraph when an NPC will block or parry.

Details/background on your proposal

Self explanatory. In world of magic the exiled boss has a move where he gains (brief) immunity to damage. This is signaled with a glint visual effect. The minotaur, his neg rep counterpart, also uses this effect when he uses his shoulder charge move where guess what, he takes no damage while ramming people. Something similar to this can be applied to AO when an NPC is blocking to signal to players that they will take reduced damage if players hit them.

Reason to add/change

NPC fights, especially bosses, can be very frustrating sometimes due to the random block and parry mechanic that they just spring out of nowhere. This feature should address this without having to overhaul or remove that function and make extended fights seem more “fair”.

While this would be a nice change, the main issue is that they are able to block mid-attack

While i agree that npcs shouldnt be able to do this most of the time, technically players can do this too, such as boxing users using crash. In any case, there should always be a signal that npcs are blocking regardless of what theyre doing

This is like putting makeup on an open wound in hopes it looks pretty enough to ignore.

Honestly, I’d be happy if most enemies couldn’t block at all.

I have a feeling that vetex would not want to do this if it takes away the challenge of longer npc fights (nuke builds go brrrrr)

goes well with the npc difficulty one
nice
