Off topic business idea: receiptless refunds

How would this work? whenever the cashier scans the barcode, it adds the item to the shopping list and then waits for the consumer to confirm using a credit card, apple pay, etc.

It will record the name on the credit card on to the cashier thingy and then put it in an extensive database based on the shop. So if you bought apples from Shoprite using Apple Pay, it would put your name on the “Shoprite Purchases Database”. The database would have everyone that has been to the shoprite before and the things they have bought with a “refund expiry date tracker”.

Whenever you come back to the same shoprite (or a different one if the store allows it) you can simply ask them to look up your name on the database and if it shows that you bought that item youll be able to refund it.

as for cash payments idk those would probably use normal receipts

let me know what you guys think about this

Pretty sure there’s a law out there for companies to safeguard your data and stuff so your credit card can not be linked back to you or sold for information. Could be something similar to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 or the Consumer Credit Protection Act of 1968, though you’ll have to look into that further.

You’d have to remember also that companies do not want you to refund items at their store since it costs them money to dispose of the used product and issue you a new one. I don’t see this system being issued much for smaller items like apples as it would simply be out of their best interests to make it easier for people to give losses to the business.

A reasonable use for this might be for large and more expensive items available, but one could argue that it just makes it easier to execute return fraud.

However yes, I think this system could be implemented in the future with virtual recipes or end to end encrypted logs between the client and store.
