Okay, Lore Question, How Much Political Power Do the Cities/Cultures Have Compared to the Magic Council?

Like the towns in the game clearly have governments (kings and mayors, and some of the (used to be) planned cultures seem to commune), but the Magic Council seems massive. How much political power/control does the Magic Council have considering who runs them?

im guessing they are independent where they can do whatever as long as it doesnt disobey the council’s laws

Good debate, I don’t necessarily think the magic council controls magius, I’m sure they just put down a certain set of universal rules such as “no murder” etc etc that everyone has to follow, and then the cultures or kingdoms can do what they want beyond that or add a more complex list of rules amongst themselves.

I mean I guess? They seem more like a SWAT team but then you realize they’re the first line of defense for everything

true, it’s not realistic that king david silver doesn’t have his own army and he relies on the magic council to keep him and his kingdom safe

less than MC

magic council are like a business. they are the business of law enforcement. every city/town/culture has them because it is good to keep the law in balance. they cant do it by themselves.
thats my opinion doe :woman_shrugging:

Based on what the lore doc says about this question, it seems like Magius has a federalism system of government in place. There’s the overarching federal government (Magic Council) and smaller regional governments (individual cities/cultures).

So the regional governments can create laws based on their specific needs, but the laws created by the overarching federal government will always take precedence. But it does seem like the rulers of said regional governments participate in the MC, so they might have input in the “big” laws.

So basically the United States.

Yep, honestly most of that was just regurgitated from my US poli sci class lol

I do wonder though, how much do curse users play a role? Hell, I feel like the people of Magius would see the Council (the people running the MC) as basically gods due to their role in the world. Then again there has to be something to make your presence respected.

Oh that’s actually an interesting question. It makes me wonder if Trigno, Averill, John, and Arsen are part of the 10 members that vote or if they are a separate group within the MC.

Speaking of those 10 members, we don’t even know if they are made up of the heads of the various cultures, especially since there’s 13 cultures on the Trello. I guess maybe some don’t have representatives like the Old Sea Vikings. Or the 10 members could be unaffiliated with any culture.

Damn, as hyped as I am for AO and all the juicy lore it’ll bring, I can’t help but wish WoM and its lore could’ve played out.

MC kind of gay not going to lie.

Personally, I think they should just quit with the pretenses and rename the Magic Council to the Alalean and Vistarian Council. Perhaps that would awaken the true people of Magius to the wicked deeds being committed right under their noses.

Even after AO is released and all things take place in the War Seas, you thirst for the justice of underrepresented civilians in Magius. Respect. :weary::v:

It’s a good thing Fang isn’t Alalean anymore, especially after your mega-chad based reasoning. Now we don’t even know where he comes from.
