On Magic and its Elements - A study [Journal-ish?]

Today was certainly a slow day.
Discovering your ability for magic was meant to be a life changing event, and yet, here you are. Still working the same dead-end job at Sailor’s Lodge, operating decades-old cranes, scrapping barnacles off the hulls of caravels, and doing all the menial chores that ship captains could not be bothered to do, all for a measly handful of galleons.

You were never quite the most physically imposing person, and your few attempts at holding a blade only resulted in an embarassing scar to your knee. You had hoped this opportunity would reveal a newfound talent, that this magic would help you achieve success at last… But alas, even the most humble of ensigns could not hold their laughter as you attempted to enlist in the legion.

As it turn out, one is born with the ability to use magic. But not with the talent to control it. And once more, you found yourself lacking, only paltry blasts of elemental power relucantly manifesting for mere seconds even as you call for every ounce of your power.

With a sigh, you return to scrubbing the old rotting deck of some drunkard’s ship. It would be without pay, of course, as those who are too fond of drink tend to weasel their way out of giving but a single coin. And sure enough, all you had to show for your efforts was some old book, which was carelessly thrown your way as the swaying captain ordered to his crew to sail off.

…But you had to say, the title on its cover had all your attention. Perhaps this could be your lucky break.

ON MAGIC AND ITS ELEMENTS - A STUDY
|
Penned by Andrew Grimoire

This story will be a short creative exercise where i will be attempting to look at every element in the game from the point of view of someone studying it in the Arcane universe, trying to tie the lore we know of magic with what is implied, what players tend to do with magic in game, and a whole lot of me waffling to try and make a lego game where people shot wind lasers sound coherent.

As of rn, i only have this little narrative prologue to offer, and next will be a preamble introducing the basic lore common to all magic in-universe. Afterwards… Chapter 1 - Acid Magic.

seems like something to look forward to, but a chapter per magic? that seems a bit much unless you make some lore for each

Some magics could fill a whole chapter, like lightning, if we suppose it has most of its irl properties like magnetism, but some magics probably should just be grouped up in one chapter, like snow and ice

or at least have a transition, since they’re so related
