Currently, mutation is the process of turning a base magic into a lost magic/ancient magic
nah wasn’t this an AA thing? im pretty sure the current plan for AO is that instead of “upgrading your magic”, you instead learn new ones from lost and ancient scrolls resulting in letting you use ur basic alongside lost and ancients.

That got changed to the player needing a “Hecate Shard,” found in the same way Scrolls were meant to be obtained. With one, you can pick a Magic and mutate it into any Magics it can mutate into; from there, you can choose to discard the original Magic (2nd / 3rd), or move it into another slot if it’s your first Magic.
You’re limited by what the Base Magic was; for example, Magma will get most solid and liquid mutations, and Water will likely get most liquid and cold mutations.
Ancient Magics are planned to be obtained in a similar manner, although they’ll use a different item that hasn’t been thought of yet.

If Elden Ring’s only way to re-invest stat points or change spell staff/incantation amulet was through either creating a new character and playing through the entirety of the game again or going into Caelid while walking and devoid of equipment for about 1.5 times the fast playthrough’s length, Elden Ring wouldn’t be as good of a game, no?

The original goal was to have fun with a feature that a game offered, but to reach it, you had to go through something that you did not desire to go through (probably because you don’t find it to be fun as you would otherwise desire to go through it) in order to finally reach said feature. The worst part? You will have to do this again if you want

Let’s make a comparison, why do people hate video advertisements? Because they force you to expand time that you did not wish to. - lots of people find the dark sea fun
- it doesn’t take 15 hours to find hecate essence
- there is other content in the dark sea to do while grinding hecate, like sinking atlantean ships or getting dark sealed chests

Elden Ring remains an RPG while AO is an ORPG, they have the same objective;
Elden Ring has multiplayer combat that constantly gets re-balanced, it’s an integral part of the game as it’s enabled by default.
Walking simulator 2021 may be fun for a bit before quickly growing old. If you find it to be fun, stick to it instead of talking about Arcane Odyssey;
It takes about 4 to 5 hours to reach level 140 in Arcane Odyssey, multiply that by 1.5 and you get 6 to 7.5 hours, the average amount of time it takes to find hecate essences;
I haven’t heard of anyone gathering dark sealed chests or even trying to sink ships from the far reaches while looking for hecate essences, hell, people even discourage doing so while on the grind (nobody even tries to sink ships on third range dark sea farming either and you know it).
You want to watch the video but get stopped by an ad, you want to change your magic but get stopped by some grind. Nothing stops you from not watching the ads either, it’s just that you won’t get to watch your video as a result;
