Not Odyssey, just Arcane, the LoL Netflix show. What’re your guys’ thoughts, if any, on it? Personally I’ve been really sucked into it, I really love it and have next to zero issues with the show. Animation? Top-tier. Story? Amazing. Soundtrack? O r g a s m i c.
So I ask you forums, what’re your opinions on this show? Am I an odd ball for thinking it’s so good? Have some of you never even heard of it? I’d just like to know
My one complaint with the show is Jayce. I don’t know if I’d appreciate the character more if I played the game but, coming from someone with no prior LoL experience, all other characters in the show feel real and unique except for Jayce, who feels like an archetypical entrepreneur with not all that much special about him. All of the speeches about progress and whatnot sound like they were ripped straight from a blockchain conference.
I laughed when I read that first sentence, anticipating Jayce as being a complaint. Yeah people don’t seem to like him, I am overall fine with him. I can see the tragedy of his character. He had honest and pure intentions when starting his journey, truly just wanting to make the world a better place with Hextech, but it seems he’s just gotten distracted. Slowly he’s tipping over and becoming something he never thought he would or should. He’s had growth at the very least, even if it isn’t good, it is something.
I think they wrote him fine it’s just his character that’s pretty bland, also kinda on them, but I hope he has changes in S2. Really side from that one aspect he doesn’t have much going for him.
I guess that’s just for his desire to use technology to advance the world into a more better place. Take crypto for example, anyone who is really invested into it talks about it as a sort of religion. There are some topics that people are really invested in, and Jayce is one of them concerning HexTech. I do have to say that I kinda started disliking him as the series progressed as his standpoint became kinda wonky, which is probably why you have that viewpoint. He later on became more political so his beliefs that he had gained before weren’t so strong or sincere. It also felt like Viktor was doing all the work, but that’s kinda another thing.
I think all that stuff about his viewpoint becoming “kinda wonky” was intentional to show how his sudden entrance into politics is quickly changing his perspective on things. Viktor doesn’t have this change, and there is a lot of contrast between how similar they were at the start and how different they were at the end.
My main complaint is how all of Jayce’s speeches sounded like they were written by Andrew Yang. He says stuff like “focussed on the future, not the past” and “this will revolutionize” and “progress is here” and it sounds so fake and empty. I think it was intentional, highlighting how he thinks of simply explaining what he’s been working on as a pitch deck to potential investors. But I still don’t like it and I think there are more creative and subtle ways of characterizing him.
Listen, I know i shouldn’t be necroing like this, but I had to get this off my chest:
I’m straight—like, very much heterosexual—but dear god, Victor has got to have the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard. Like, I am actually swooning thinking about it. Someone please get this man a microphone and have him sing in a low voice. I would die happy.
Also, season 2 just got announced and we should probably talk about it, yeah?
Bro, I want this man to serenade me while singing in the gentlest voice while softly playing a harp. Then I want to listen to a one hour ASMR video with his lips right up to the microphone, so close you can hear it when he swallows and breathes. He will somehow find a way to make even those two sounds beautiful. I need this. So badly.
Also, holy crap, Vi needs to get herself down from being the world’s punching bag. Like, girl, did you learn boxing from how much everyone beat up on you???
