Opinions on the current Dark Sea?

Personally my main complaint is the dark sea not being instacnced

Honestly as someone with over like 500 hours in the dark sea now, I think a big problem is the fact megastructures are broken.

Like yea, no one was really excited to see the forest or the rift, but it added some flavor to your expeditions. This if the first time a long unfixed bug has actively REMOVED content from the game, and the dark sea is way worse off for it.

I hope some of you agree, but here’s my wishlist for the Dark sea:

  • Greater Enemy Variety
  • Minibosses/Bosses (The giant golem you fight with your ship is a great start)
  • Larger variety of structures on islands
  • Larger structures in general
  • New Unique locations like Siren Rocks that are shorter, more impactful stops.

also add unique permanent rewards like dragonblood to encourage going there

literally just species in the dark sea

tornadoes have never worked outside of the dark sea despite the fact they were supposed to

pretty much all my dark sea runs rn are insanity 0, with dragon blood it would give me enough reason to move up a layer further, along with whatever ship parts we might gain that can give our ships more hp/speed to get in and out quicker

I mainly have a mid-high hp ship so i can have a comfortable time sailing around with the free hp repairs from my maxed out ship builder (I am able to gain more hp from the constant free repairs than the dark sea can hurt my ship)

Sunken Forest No longer spawn in Dark sea ever since Nimbus sea got released

I don’t really like to do them often but every once in a while I’ll be like, what could go wrong? And then I’ll have specks of satisfaction and mostly terror because I might die. (I am very unskilled and Dark Seas actually demand my attention without being too cheesy. Until I fight NPCS. Those are jumpscares. Well, I don’t go too deep into the dark sea though. Haven’t seen the worst of the weather yet.)

Aside from the dark sea’s reason for being, I find that constantly being on edge isn’t really the best way a game can make use of push&pull.

While at sea, you have to make sure to navigate through waves as to not damage your ship, keep an eye out for tornadoes, and watch for islands.
While on land, you have to quickly scour through the expanse, look for structures, and kill atlanteans.

All this as you have to protect yourself from water poisoning, hope that your ship doesn’t get attacked while you’re away from it, and wish that zeus (or rain) doesn’t strike you down.

It’s exhausting, really, and this is when whirlpools are bugged and the next update will bring more lethal events.

It’s not the only one, subclans have been unable to access clan slots (so the entire empires update), for near 8 months now

The dark sea needs a bit more developer love.

Here’s hoping full release comes back with the milk.

Golem??

Considering it’s meant to be “replayable endgame content”, it probably has to be the worst designed “rogue-like” content I’ve ever played- thats only looking endgame roguelike content that was intentionally made to be fun/enjoyable/actually replayable. In my opinion it completely fails when it comes to each and every one of these aspects- even if it wasn’t made to be “fun”, the whole replayability thing pretty much depends on whether or not you get what you wanted from your expedition or not. Maybe you wanted more powerful scrolls, or you’re hunting for an atlantean essence…

I feel like some of its problems would be solved by an instanced server (lag, bounty hunters stealing your sealed chests, would also open up more space for stuff like raid bosses and more indepth dark sea mobs), but seeing as it’s pretty much Arcane Odyssey’s equivalent of space I doubt it’ll ever happen.

I said first. Not last.

I didn’t say otherwise, I just added on that there’s other ones.

I was wondering why I’ve literally never encountered that strange wizard tower I saw in a Dark Sea guide from ages ago…

anyway, if I had one major wish for the Dark Sea it’d be that the way Sealed Chests are transported to the boat is revised in some way.

I would consider Mirage Islands to be one of the most important pieces of content to the Dark Sea, even considering there will be a lot of other sea-based content. However, as it currently stands, carrying Sealed Chests back and forth between the boat takes so long on its own that it’s more effective time-wise to just never explore the islands and to just loot Siren rocks instead.

If I could just, say, place it on the floor and have the crew pick it up or something, it would:

  • eliminate the tedious walking back and forth between your brig, allowing you to spend more time actually exploring new sections of the islands

  • make mirage islands viable again

like i said, some sort of contraption that lets you send dark sealed chests directly back to your ship would be nice

I kinda wish the dark sea had some rogue-like elements like powerups for the rest of the run

also maybe some huge castle megastructures or something with lots of lootbut also a lot of enemies

How much memory do you have?
