Ormolu is too easy

Ormolu is way too easy of a fight.

I’ve just spent 15 minutes searching the entirety of the Stepstones for the entrance to the arena, so I’m prepared for a bad time. Ormolu is a Curse User, after all. One that has gone insane, at that. Surely he’ll be the toughest fight of the update.

The bossbar pops up with only 10k HP, compared to Caesar’s 24k. A tad low, but he has gotta have some horrifying attacks.
I enter the arena and he… summons three minions that can only use M1s. Alright, that’s fine. Then he send some pillars of crystal at me at a snail’s pace. Then he unleashes a storm of them in the center of the arena. All of these attacks have long endlag, with the only dangerous one being the crystal storm.

There’s long enough of a window between attacks for me to pelt him with attacks while staying at a good range. The only minor threat to me is the summons that nibble at me with 37 damage M1s every time I get close.
He enters the second phase and turns red. The only change is that his crystal storm attack is tougher to dodge… but it is still easily avoided by going to the edge of the arena (like you would do before). He dies soon after.

His drops? Defense/Resistance (with a variant that has drawback). Nothing exciting.

Disappointment. Let me tell you how disappointed I have become with this fight ever since I first saw him in the trailer. Ormolu is a CURSE USER. The first we can fight… and he’s easier than a dude with a disease and phoenix magic. There was so much potential with this fight, only for it to be squandered. Even giving this guy a simple blast would make him twice as engaging - all it is now is “jump around and spam until crystal storm, then dash to a corner. repeat until dead”.

Of course, it’s different for berserkers. I cannot give an accurate depiction of his difficulty for them, however I would assume they struggle with him due to being unable to fight at a range.

I would like to hear the community’s thoughts. Is Ormolu too easy of a boss ? Poll below, any responses explaining your answer would be appreciated.

Please don’t factor the difficulty of finding his arena here. Calling that the real challenge of the fight would just make me feel bad (though it is true).

Edit: Apparently he has a fourth attack where he slams the ground and crystals spike up around him in the center of the arena. It is still easily avoidable by either height or being a decent distance away.

ormolu is a boss fight for berserkers and an inconvinience for everybody else

it kinda feels like they plan bosses in a vaccum, which shows in a few cases like the kraken and ormolu

all i did was shoot him through the entrance of his lil’ arena with my greatbow and he died Curse User my big fat ass :joy_cat::joy_cat::joy_cat::joy_cat:
his design is cool but man i feel like itd be better if they put him before King Caesar because KC’s fight actually had much more going for it especially with a very cinematic attack (i love that sword attack its super fucking cool) he actually feels more fitting to be the last boss of the questline rather than Ormolu
like why does Ormolu have less attacks than Caesar and hell one of them cant even land properly if you sit still at the right position

compared to king caesar, he is incredibly disappointing :broken_heart: with how weak he is, im not sure why he was placed as the last quest especially since he definitely was not made to be the major boss. hopefully the big guy gets a buff or something

i just camped like a lil bitch and killed him without even taking damage

kinda sucks he has such a cool design for such a pushover fight

Ormolu is a wimp compare to King Caesar

ngl, i think ormolu should have its armor changed from resistance to haste, not only does it bring more usability for this armor set, it just gives variety lmao

like cmon, its a giant crystal beast, how come its armor is so awful lmao

i agree and also because crystal arcanium gives haste too as apart of its stats so why not

king ceasar salid has more than double the effective health Ormolu has, and even the final phase itself has more health than Ormolu

Ormolu needs a major buff honestly, also maybe variation in where the summons spawn? Maybe more spread out and some variants that is now just run into m1 range? My aoe powder warlord just oneshots them off spawn while still attacking Ormolu, effectively ignoring them, and i have regen in my build, i heal even more health by ormolu spawning

I had the same reaction, I genuinely wide-mouthed when I saw in the questline I was about to fight a CURSE USER. The exact people that have caused these seas to be known for war and destruction, incalculable power that has kingdoms slaughter thousands to obtain, with an AMAZING design and atmosphere in which you fight him INSIDE A MOUNTAIN with him causing EARTHQUAKES and him being a hulking mass of crystal that has gone insane and been sealed off out of fear from the outside world. This thing would have gone FERAL upon seeing a human but no, the boss can be easily spawnkilled and his second phase is basically just this:

I would’ve fought him for real but I took 1 look at the move set and realized this was not built for fighting styles

The main thing that makes him easy is his size, he basically just stands there and he is impossible to miss because he is huge

where is the entrance

Somewhere around the backside of the steps, try looking for a cooking pot

He doesn’t have the health to compensate for being so big. 10k isn’t nearly enough for how susceptible he is to attacks (he doesn’t even move! I’m sure something like Annihilation would make him even easier).

…we have an Arcanium for Crystal that gives haste and defense… AND THEY DECIDED ON RESISTANCE? WHAT PART OF THAT MAKES SENSE?

Even then, Ormolu wouldn’t even come close to Caesar or Calvus in terms of difficulty. His attacks have too much wind-up, so you can still sneak in hits between moves without too much risk (as long as you have a decent bit of dexterity). By boss fight standards, he’s still rather easy.


Forgive my poor slander, I made this in 10 minutes.

Things to make Ormolu more threatening:

  1. Basically double their health or come close (Dead King would still have more total health)
  2. Actually move/Walk so corner camping no longer works
  3. A larger Variety of moves
  4. Make the summons act differently (give them ranged abilities)
  5. give the summons more health oneshotting them with aoe just makes it free dmg on ormolu while i heal quicker
  6. Make the summons more monsterous, maybe short and bulky? Thin but moves very quickly? and maybe one that is just a wall that attempts to run through you over and over till killed while also dealing with the other summons and Ormolu
  7. Spread the summons further apart, when my life steal spawn kills them it only helps me heal faster
  8. The 2nd phase turns red and i barely see any changes outside of +2 summons, make him more aggressive, attack faster, quicker movement speed if you also apply my 2nd option

Well this was fixed but before you could just get up to his face and just do m1s till poise break and then following that the insane critical hit which for some reason dealt 3333k damage on a thermo jug

I have no idea how fs were reworked so I did not know I could just… do that
