this concept is a REALLY big stretch, and i wouldnt be mad if this got mass hates, as i do understand how many flaws this concept has, but idk, i think it might a cool concept to look into

personal arts will be another tab youll unlock(by tab i mean like stats, magic, the order, stuff like that)

basic info :

youll unlock this after awakening, itll sorta be like custom spells or skills, the original concept i had was only gonna be for weapons(cuz i <3 weapons) but i realized theres a chance this could work with other things

how to create :

basically how itd work, youll go into the tab and press some sort of “create” button idk, itll bring you to something similar to like when normally customizing magics or skills, but slightly different, their will be a lot more options as this is a lot more customizable, do note this will work with everything not just magic, but considering magic is the main part of the game, i will be giving examples with mostly magic

variants of types :

variants and types will work like this, first you choose a type(like if you have magic you would pick explosion, blast laser etc, or if berserker youd choose stuff like that, and for warriors youd choose any weapon ability in raw ability form(as in outside a weapon) in your inventory, after choosing a type, youll be able to choose a variant, itll work something like this, say the type is explosion, you could make the variant blast, in which rather than the explosion well exploding, itll shoot out a selected number of blasts from its position, youll able to pick things like direction or type, you could pick explosion which will launch it all around, shot gun which will launch it in one direction, or aimed(which will cost a ton of energy and limit the amount a lot), which will aim the blasts at the nearest player(only for blast variant) and stuff like that, youll be able to make it launch one by one or all at once, youll also be able to choose, SECOND VARIANTS, this will require level 140, in which the attack will now take more time to cast and will cost more energy, but basically say you a blast with an explosion variant, thatll work like you shoot a blast and an explosion of whatever type you want will come from it, like pillars, or shockwave, well now, you could set that explosion variant to blast, in which then itll be a blast that shoots out a bunch of blasts, and youll be able to do this with other stuff to in ordered to make interesting combos

interesting combo examples :

you could make a blast which a variant of explosion and then give it a second variant of blast with aim, in which then youll have a bouncing bullet because when it explodes itll launch another blast

or you could make a turret, in which youd have a placed magic explosion that released aimed magic blasts one at a time

personal arts for weapons :

the personal art will be put as a skill in your inventory when your done making it, personal arts for weapons will limit the combinations you can make to a specific weapon weight, and some skills wont be compatible even if they are in the same weight class, but for the most part itll be very similar

extra variants examples :

blast + beam basically, the blast will shoot a beam in the opposite direction of where its velocity when it explodes, any variants after that will be based on the beam

beam + explosion, itll simply be a beam with an explosion at the end like explosion, pillar or shockwave or a second variant coming off of the explosion

leap plus most things : the ability will activate under the leap, like explosion leap would be like normal leap but it does damage

the berserker personal arts wil work similar to the magic ones, with the shot acting like beam, or stuff like that, but ofc some things wouldnt work the same considering there are large differences between the classes

extra final information :

you can only have one personal art, and itll take the place of an ultimate art having a long cooldown as well, although the cooldown will depend on variants and things like that

for magic explosion having the blast variant and making them shoot out one by one, you will be able to edit the interval between each blast, as well as the interval for many other things, like maybe the beam for the blast + beam variant would be a second late in ordered to try to catch people off guard

the casting time of these attacks is heavily based on variants and stuff, like having 2 variants on an attack over one would double the cooldown and increase casting time significantly

all classes will have some things that arent compatible, like magic leap(or anything similar)is not able to be a variant for anything

youll be abled to choose any cast animation no matter what type or variant the attack is
youll be able to name the thing any name that applies to any of the variants, for example having a blast that has an explosion variant at the end would allow you to use any names from explosion or blast

reasoning : i think itd be an interesting addition to the game and would allow really complex and interesting attack that i think would be really fun to make and think about, this could enable many interesting combos of variants and attacks all in a pursuit of making the best thing you can make

also i think this would be very fun for warrior mains considering there isnt really a lot of variety in what you can do with your weapons unlike the other classes, and i think this could open up a lot for people like me who suffer through beating the game with sharp sticks and sharp sticks with sharp metal on it

worries : balancing, OHHH THE BALANCING, yeah, this could potential be incredibly bs to have to try to fight, difficulty to make, i understand this would be INCREDIBLY hard to code considering all the different attacks in the game, and trying to determine what things can and cant variant and how the variant would work, although id say if you cant think of a variant for something to something else in like an hour than it simply wouldnt be compatible

yup, i recognize this idea could potentially go terribly and is really high risk and high effort to make

Either way, making your own moves would definitely be amazing but not in a such game like this. It’s not too wide to have it yet

Could you format the idea better? There’s no consistency in how many lines there are in each paragraph, everything is unorganized and not labelled properly, and it’s overall messy and tedious to read through.

Being able to combine moves like how you’re suggesting is very interesting, but I have some concerns:

  • It’ll heavily imbalance the amount of options that are available for magic compared to strength, spirit, or weapons. Almost all of these examples involve magic, and how will strength combine moves? Punch, then punch again?
  • How will weapons and relics work with Personal Arts? Their moves are tied to the tools themselves, so what happens to the personal art if the player changes weapons or resets stats?
  • Why use these over Ultimate Arts? Seems to me like it’d be better to use one big move rather than two small moves mashed together.
  • This could conflict with the design space for spells, eg. What if there’s an idea for a spell that shoots projectiles that cause a pillar explosion on impact? Well, Personal Arts already do that.

first i said somewhere around the beginning, all classes would have this, i was just mainly using magic as an example, although i personally couldnt think of a ton of examples, the charge of whatever it was called would work sorta like blast but you the bullet, and having a variant of it would send out an afterimage

the personal art wont be tied to the weapon, but it will be tied to the weapon series, like spears or daggers or swords, or heavy weapons, it depends on the variants that will limit what it can be equiptede to, doing anything to the weapon that would normally cause the normal attacks to be deleted will cause the personal art to drop in your inventory automatically

reason to use it over ultimate art is simply variety, you can do a lot more with it, and make some bs attacks with the downside being longer casting time, you could easily get these things to the same power, its just that it would probably be unbalanced to have this one broken ability AND an ultimate art

and yes, this COULD conflict with the design space for other things : / yeah i got nothing, it definitely would

Okay first of all try to make it all not a big fat wall of text it hurts my eyes

then this is a really good concept, and could be implemented, although it would probably take too long development time. The only way of balancing these would be with lower affinities or cooldowns, which at that point it’s just a waste of a slot, and we will have a TON in full release. not to mention all the implications like bouncing lasting pulsars thats just broken tbh
