As of right now these things spawn way too much and are way too fast and strong to make looting the dark sea even remotely worth it, seriously this is actually ridiculous. Let me break it down
1: They have a spawn rate that rivals that of normal sharks in the bronze sea. I was just in an expedition with a friend and we hadn’t even been in the dark sea for 5 minutes yet we had 4 GIANT WHITE EYES CHASING US.
2: They are literally faster than a full hp brig that doesn’t have any speed increasing items and for my ship with 86 speed we’re literally the same speed on high hp only meaning I LITERALLY CANNOT LOSE THEM.
3: You literally cannot kill them whatsoever unless you have 2 people that are both pure builds, and 2 ship attachments that scale with their build, they have 7k damn hp, that’s 2.5k more than calvus. Oh and they also one-shot you with their bite.
4: Their pursuing range should not be basically infinite, because if EVEN ONE starts chasing you, congratulations, now you literally cannot loot ANYTHING without them taking out half of your ship’s hp bc it would require you to stop, and looting shipwrecks is impossible without them knocking you into the water so they can eat you(or just straight up defying the laws of physics and jumping/phasing through the damn shipwreck to bite you, it’s happened to me before).
Literally all I want is for their spawn rate and their pursuing range to be reduced. That’s it.
weird i managed to escape one with an halfway destroyed brig and perf made it flee after barely 3 hits
i hardly had time to dark sea up but cant say i can relate for now, unless its 1.14.2 that made the spawn rate extreme
Except for ship attachments, though to be honest unless you’re a pure stat build they really aren’t that strong. Most people just use them if they want a drop from an aquatic enemy.
My issue with the ship attachments is that they aren’t very strong, nor do we have/get any stronger versions in the Dark Sea to better combat GIant White Eyes (or hybrid variants/interactions).
Imagine a swivel gun but instead of it being one barrel it’s a triple barrel that rotates and fires more rapidly.
Good suggestion, and yeah, honestly, Giant White Eyes being like that is kinda annoying, makes them seem like those generic “skinless apex predator in a all cold planet” that chases characters as if it had a personal grudge instead of just wanting to eat, why the hell would this super massive giant shark be interested in eating what is basically all but candy wrapper with a few bits???
I really hope giant white eyes are nerfed, because these guys are just unavoiable RNG damage. It’s completely rng if they chase you, instakill you, or deal 2k damage to your ship. You can’t even reasonably kill them (I play paladin for reference) and and you can hardly see or know where they are half of the time (they either go near the ship and do nothing or are somewhere behind the ship). And their AI is buggy as hell like every sea monster. These guys are just unpredictable chip damage to your ship and a looming buggy instakill. And they aren’t fun to play around at all.
I think more should be done than a spawn rate nerf and a pursue range nerf. Maybe a shark spawning and a ship attachment rework? Ship attachments should be much stronger and usable while sailing, so you aren’t completely screwed as a solo player (you can’t just get off the wheel to go to a ship attachment that practically shoots rubber bullets). White eyes should be rare to not ruin the novelty and big sharks should spawn at certain areas to add risk to collecting the loot in such areas (such as empty ships).
