Please summarize your experience with AO

so true, I watch shorts while sailing between islands :sob:.

Playing Arcane Odyssey feels like playing with your manipulative ex after they were just diagnosed with cancer. You go along with them because of Sunk Cost Fallacy and because of memories. They say they’re getting better every day because they can do new things, but you both know the truth deep down that they’re terminal and only slowly growing worse.

Its nice, needs a whole lot of work, but there’s a solid foundation here.
The worldbuilding is good, the story told within less so (who is neviro again?)
The gameplay is enjoyable.

My biggest issue is how some features are completely neglected for no real reason (berserker and hecate essence are mainly what come to mind here).
Hecate essence definitely feels alot better to hunt for now that there’s some actual content beyond it in the far reaches, including much much more common stuff that’s actually worth looking for. In the end though, aside from a couple bug fixes, it hasn’t been touched at all since its implementation.
Berserker shouldn’t even be a class choice if I’m being real here, it demands a fundamentally different playstyle to literally everything else in the game and the game isn’t and won’t be built to sustain it.

i loveee the game

my biggest complaint is much of the community (mainly the forums if im being 100% fr) being so pessimistic and insufferable alot of the time, seriously are you guys glass is half empty kind of people or what

Lots of potential but also way too many pitfalls in the span of roughly 3 years

Most of the community is pessimistic, even I am most of the time; but I was optimistic at first when AO came out, additionally in WoM.

The issue at hand is that the developers are not quite doing what the community wants - which.. I know it’s a stupid thing to do - in some cases, it’s crucial; the balancing changes brought on by The Balancing Team is focused on PvP as Vetex does not want to interact with said PvP balancing[1], the performance was awful in many cases in both latency and general FPS drops, and so on, I can’t quite remember.

Generally fantastic. The progression just feels fun to do on different files which is why i have so many. Also general pve and boss fighting is fun and the combat system is fun to get into. The worldbuilding and lore are very good and the main story is engaging enough for me to want to know how it goes. The negatives would be performance issues and average-to-poor visual direction, especially in story and quest cutscenes.

I yapped about why i like the loop in another post

Summary

i dont think you’re gonna find a single person who has several posts on the forum say anything other than they like arcane odyssey

A mixed experience, one minute I have fun and then the next minute I feel like doing something that will have even the likes of Durza tell me to calm down! Some of the bosses such as Allanon and Ivar are a HELL to fight due to their poorly balanced attacks, and especially Ivar’s small arena. In general most NPCSs are just unfairly balanced. Trying to use your second magic in combat feels pointless, due to a one second delay when using your second magic after use your first magic. The only way not to deal with the delay is using certain spells in a certain order, such as using your beam spell. Meanwhile NPCs can just spam all their magics all at once, my rival is a literal monster because of it. As others stated, I do not like how most of the time it’s just bad weather all the time, obstructing vision. I HATE the dark sea rifts. The list goes on. Things could be so much better!

neat first time experience for new players if they’re not infected with the brainrot syndrome. There’s plenty of content to do for several hours but after you do everything you get bored, and progressing another file is extremely boring as you already know what will happen and what to do, and you can’t skip it without a gamepass…
why the fuck do you gotta do the fucking dodge reflex quest on every file

Woops, I do not tend to utilize such menus, thanks for showing me.

Now that I know for a guarantee that StreamingEnabled is… Enabled, I’m curious on why the range is set so high?[1]

I apologize, it’s past midnight and I tend to get a bit unobservant and stupid at night.

Since StreamingEnabled can cause high ping[2], is it worth creating a system that’s supposedly better, if it means the greater part of entire islands are continued to be rendered? the game already has ridiculous ping, so it isn’t helping his case

The ā€˜unrendered’ islands that are still visible appear to merely have a few assets removed, whereas the WAY far I theorize to be completely gone; thrown into ReplicatedStorage

I merely want to see an benchmark of the unloading system alongside `StreamingEnabled, especially with SLIM[3] on every model

ā€œMeet Allanonā€

ā€œMeet Liaraā€

ā€œNow Liara is deadā€

ā€œNow Allanon became depressed and exiled by his fatherā€

I’m not saying Arcane Odyssey is bad per se. Its a fun game. I already sink 300+ hours already. I’m just addressing issues that I saw in this game. I just want to see what other like and dislike bout Arcane Odyssey.

I just wish NPC cannot block when they use their move.

By different playstyle, what do you mean by that? I am Berserker btw, and the only content I have issue with is Sea Monster.

Every other class is long ranged.
Berserker and only berserker is close ranged.

The game is built expecting you to have a constant supply of ranged attacks.
This is why every berserker hates the new bosses, they weren’t built for berserkers to fight because if they were then they’d be comedically easy for literally every other class.

My active presence on Roblox is hanging by a thread, and AO is that thread

If I ever decide I’m done with the game, I’m just moving on from Roblox entirely

It has its flaws but it’s still a solid game

I am no longer eligible to comment on the game because to be honest, I’ve completely forgotten what playing arcane odyssey even feels like. In only a span of a month, I think that says a lot about the game.
I remember the game being by far one of the laggiest things I’ve ever played and that the gameplay and story was hella mid.

6/10 too much water

no literally

The game is cool and all but I’m not really the biggest fan of pirates, and ships, and stuff. I much prefer having a giant landmass that was planned in World of Magic.

Gameplay and PvP

Also I grew to find a lot of this game’s repeatable content and grinding and gameplay loop to be boring and tedious (As I feel with most roblox RPGs). I can go hop on Dead or Alive 5 and have way more fun and I’d say AO has way more content than that does.

I feel like this comes from the insistence to not balance PvP since this is a PvE game it’s not the point. Which I understand, but that should mean there would be a PvE experience on the same level that a fully fleshed out PvP system would have, right?

Yeah no.

Story

Most people have already said what I wanted to so I’ll just say a very quick statement.

This game is a roblox game with a roblox dev with roblox dev sensibilities therefore this game was always bound to have somewhat amateurish writing. As a shonen-y type roblox game it works at a basic level, anything more than that is uh… yeah.

We can only hope the writing is better when/if the book is realized.

The End

anyways that is the end and is 6/10

That’s where you’re wrong.
The only thing balanced IS PvP, the balance team ONLY balances PvP.
PvE changes are side effects of PvP balancing, because the game can’t differ between PvP and PvE in real time.

Aren’t we forgetting about the PvP rant? This is basically the evidence on why we don’t have a dedicated PvP combat update and everything else is outsourced to the balance team for half-assed changes.

You’re correct in the sense that the PvP changes effect PvE. But when it comes to PvE/PvP, PvE will always be the more balanced out of the two, as that is what Vetex focuses his effort and creative decisions on. while PvP will always be the more neglected of the 2 (as his own words) and sourced to a third party whom is questionable at their job.
