Ultra Necrozma vs Eternamax Eternatus: Who's Better?
So the question is simple: Which Pokemon is better?Ultra Necrozma?
Or Eternamax Eternatus?
The answer, is for you to decide, but we’ll be going over several categories to help you decide.
Design
The first category is the Pokemon's design. Arguably one of the most important parts of a Pokemon, design is the fundamental core of if a Pokemon is good or not*, and having a horrible design automatically disqualifies the Pokemon from ever being good. Design would have three elements from which to decide which is better, and we will be going over them:
-
Visual Design (How the Pokemon itself looks, animations, etc.)
-
Sound Design (How the Pokemon sounds, such as cries and sound effects, and battle theme if applicable)
-
Lore Design (Any information about it not directly related to the first two, such as Tinkaton canonically being the reason Corviknight are not used as the Taxi service due to shooting them down regularly, Heatmor and Durant being natural enemies, etc)
*provided you aren’t a smelly competitive player, in which by the way Ultra Necrozma always wins
Visual Design
For this category, the competition is fierce.
Ultra Necrozma and Eternamax Eternatus both look, to put it simply, absolutely awesome.
If I had to pick a winner, it would have to go to Ultra Necrozma however, as I personally feel like what it’s going for is better executed than Eternatus. It’s concept of “The Blinding One” feels much better pulled off than “The Darkest Day” being a giant hand, though I must admit the storm is super cool (we ignore potential biblical references/parallels with the hand thing).
Sound Design
Ultra Necrozma.
Lore Design
This one can go either way to be honest. And it's not from them both being good, but that they're so, so similar. Like, it genuinely cannot be a coincidence, there's a non-zero chance they are related:
- They are both aliens to our planet
- They both produce light that affects Pokemon
- They both have an important legend about them in their region.
And about Eternatus: it’s design is similar to that of an Ultra Beast. This isn’t a coincidence, the person who designed it also designed the Ultra Beasts. Eternatus has some connection to Ultra Space, maybe being brought into Galar when Ultra Necrozma first came to Alola.
However, I personally feel like Ultra Necrozma wins, simply because it’s dex entry being “The light pouring out from all over its body affects living things and nature, impacting them in various ways.”, which sounds much cooler to be perfectly honest. In lore it would also certainly be stronger.
Game Data
Game Data is going to be what people cannot argue about. There will be two catagories:
- In-Game Battle (Which Pokemon has a better/harder battle against it In-Game)
- 1v1 Winner (Which Pokemon would beat the other in a 1v1)
Let’s get started.
In-Game Battle
Ultra Necrozma. Every. Single. Time. While Eternamax Eternatus has a much higher BST (Base Stat Total) of 1125, you fight it with:
- Hop (who cares lol)
- Zacian Crowned (broke VGC and got sent into AG)
- Zamazenta Crowned (not as broken as Zacian but still very good)
Effectively quartering the BST.
Ultra Necrozma, you fight with just your party. It is notorious for how hard it is to beat even without any challenge, typically being cheesed, not to mention the amazing music.
Also, UN gets a +1 Omniboost to it’s stats. To those less versed in Pokemon, an Omniboost is a stage boost to every stat other than HP. Meaning that Ultra Necrozma, the pokemon with a BST of 754, gets a +1 stage boost to everything apart from HP. A stage 1 boost provides a 1.5x multiplier to it’s respective stat, meaning UN’s actual BST in the battle is:
Meaning UN is only 43 points behind EE.
1v1 Winner
This is where it gets interesting.
Who would win in a 1v1 duel against the two, using In-Game stats?
Remember when I said “This is where it gets interesting.”? I lied.
For one, this is the math formula I have to use, since damage calculation websites don’t have EE:
(Though we can ignore every single additional multiplier apart from STAB)
And for another, because it’s not even interesting. Why, you may ask? If UN lives 1 attack, after using protect on it’s first turn and tanking the second turn hit (why the hell is UN 1 point slower than EE), UN Instakills EE. By the way, if we allow UN to have it’s +1 omniboost from it’s fight, it would win every SINGLE match by just protecting turn 1 and outspeeding turn 2.
You might be wondering why UN instakills EE.
Firstly,
(EE is weak to psychic types lol)
Secondly, and more funnier:
It’s pretty clear who the winner would be.
gonna be totally honest here this part would have taken much less time to write if the mentally ill damage calculation websites allowed me to input base stats/the move being used instead of only having the option of meta sets
Now that you have all the facts, along with my thoughts on each of them, I ask you this one question: Which do YOU think is the better Pokemon, and what is your reasoning?
