Poseidon’s Arena
Underneath Poseidon’s temple on Mount Othrys, a hidden arena hosts challengers from throughout the War Seas. Every team of competitors must defeat five others in order to prove themselves the Chosen of Poseidon. Do you dare to compete?
Introduction
The Poseidon’s Arena is an arena underneath Mount Othrys, accessible via (possibly: a door and small platform on the outside of Mount Othrys). Upon entering, the player will be shown a brief cutscene telling them about the Arena and warning them that the weak will not be tolerated to stain Poseidon’s floors with their putrid filth.
The player will then be able to either exit or continue onward into the Arena. If they choose to continue onward, they will have to fight two Followers of Poseidon.
Follower of Poseidon
Level 115Magic Choices: Water/wind-based things (Water, Snow, Ice, Wind)
Fighting Style Choices: Sailor Fist, Basic Combat, Iron Leg
Weapon Choices: Trident, Spear, Cutlass, Pistol,
After defeating them, they will be welcomed into the arena. Poseidon’s Arena is made up of, shockingly, an arena and a few shops (Enchanter, Upgrader, Tailor, etc.).
When no players are competing in the arena or in the queue, there will be NPC 1v1s (both NPCs same 10-level range, Levels 120 - 200) occasionally (every 15-30 minutes or so). The actual arena should probably be 125% - 150% bigger than the one on the hot spring desert island or something, and partially underground.
Fighting in the Arena
Teams / solo players who wish to compete can talk to the Battlemaster to be queued or start their battles. The player can choose which ‘Tier’ to compete in (Tier 1: Levels 100 - 200, Tier 2: Levels 200 - 350, Tier 3: Levels 350 - 550, et cetera. When choosing a tier, players can choose whichever tier they want- assuming that they have beaten the previous one- regardless of their level. the tier levels represent that of their enemies.) After choosing a tier, there will be either one or two options shown next to the [Leave] option: ‘Compete by myself’ and, if in a team, ‘Compete with my team.’
My Justification for Tiers
I had the idea of including Tiers because I realized that as players level up, the Arena would either become really easy for them, have to be really hard for any non-max players, or have to level scale. To me, these seemed the only other outcomes without tiers. I don't like level scaling because it removes fulfillment from leveling up and oftentimes makes the game harder because you put time into it, and the other two outcomes are both bad for obvious reasons (outcome 1: devalues the achievement of beating the Arena, outcome 2: makes it max-level only content), so I thought that Tiers could fix these fairly easily.Once a team reaches the top of the queue, they will be teleported into the arena and be shown a small cutscene of the opposing NPC team, which will contain the same amount of players.
They will fight five teams in total, and the levels of each team will be determined by which # team they are and randomness. Each tier level range is split into five sub-ranges. For Tier 1, these would be: 100 - 120, 120 - 140, 160 - 180, 180 - 200.
Each opposing team is assigned a range according to their # (opposing team 1 will have NPCs between levels 100 - 120, opposing team 2 will have NPCs between levels 120 - 140, etc.) and will get progressively harder. The final / fifth team level range, however, will just be the last 15 levels of the Tier level range.
The Reward
Players who beat all Tiers of the Arena (up to five maybe? idk depends on max level for the game) will get the title “Godblessed of Poseidon,” and players who have beaten the first two Tiers will get the title “Chosen of Poseidon.” Maybe players who have beaten half of the Tiers would get the title “Champion of Poseidon”? I guess a lot of the Tiers and titles depend on the max level.
Also, shopkeepers in Poseidon’s Arena (and maybe any others who lorewise know about the Poseidon’s Arena?) will significantly lower their prices and increase the money they will spend to buy stuff off any with the title “Chosen of Poseidon,” and the discounts will be very much increased with both the “Champion of Poseidon” and “Godblessed of Poseidon” titles.
