Been trying it with harming potions and gels out of curiosity. Also tested it with healing and saw no difference. To be fair I have very little (like 8.5% just for testing)
For reference Potency Boost’s in-game description is:
Also thinking of investing in Potency Boost once I get access to Aura/Focus on my Savant build, though not sure if the difference will be observable
Harming and Healing potions are not affected by this Potency effect, neither are they from Dark Sea cauldrons (they are just affected by the potion type).
For other potions, Potency is just a duration increase. This explains why Gels last shorter than Elixirs. With a max Potency set you can almost double the duration of a Luck V aura potion, for example.
For buff skills, duration is not affected, but instead the strength of the effect. You have to invest a lot to noticeably buff even a 30% Resistance mode, which doesn’t make the gem stat worth it in that regard.
Oh so it sucks then. Yaaaay.
Man I was hoping I could make a Potency Boosted alchemist gremlin that throws harm potions everywhere, but alas
You can still undergo the Alchemist profession, create Unstable/Multi-reagent potions and throw Harming+Electric+Poisoned+Bleeding potions ![]()
I suppose you’re right
And for all I know the Jewelcrafting profession might give me something useful for a battle alchemist
Potion potency multiplies status duration for potions with durations.
For potions without durations, it multiplies the effect.
Naturally this should work on potions like healing/damage despite what Rime said.
If it does not, submit a bug report, because its probably a bug.
Every current-game profession will give substantial boosts compared to what they do now.
The patch notes have teased a decent number of things presumably tied to them.
As for fishing and charting, I don’t have a singular idea what they’re going to do.
I guess I should ask the devs if Potency Boost gems are SUPPOSED to work on potions how you’ve described. Also need to farm Tartarus tears and Musgravite + record proof if it is bugged. Yaaaay.
Well potency is the stat that determines how much healing you get out of a healing potion, that’s why potency boosts (golden pearls, golden cauldrons) get you way better healing potions.
Potency gems boost potency, so you’d expect it to do the same.
Just adding onto this, but if I recall correctly, Divanochi once tested the highest possible Potency Boost percentage on status effects, and only managed to eek out one extra tick of Burning with it.
This whole Potency Boost thing is so damn weird because Status Duration is ALSO a gem secondary effect that exists, but for some reason only affects durations on attacks???
Some testing with Perfect Brewing:
0.62 Potency Vial Tier 1 Healing potion: 64 healing.
0.75 Potency Burst Tier 1 Tide potion: 44 secs duration.
0.81 Potency Burst Tier 1 Harming potion: 42 + 122 damage.
With a +70% potency set:
0.62 Potency Vial Tier 1 Healing potion: 64 healing.
0.75 Potency Burst Tier 1 Tide potion: 1 min 14 secs duration.
0.81 Potency Burst Tier 1 Harming potion: 42 + 122 damage.
Some patch notes that explain what is happening here:
v1.17.112
- (moochezz) Healing and Harming potions that are not a Gel are no longer affected by silver/golden cauldrons and do not take up one of their uses, as the potions themselves are not affected by these modifiers anyway.
v1.17.117
- (moochezz) [Fixed] Brewing skill level boost on Gale, Healing, Harming, and Electric potions, as well impact damage on potions (where applicable), is higher than intended (1.5x at Perfect level → 1.25x).
Another test:
0.81 Potency Burst Tier 1 Electric potion: 40 + 82 damage. Same with the +70% potency set equipped.
From this we can gather that those 4 potions scale with Brewing skill and Potion potency/type, but they are not affected by modified cauldrons (I have not tested Electric and Gale in that case) nor the Potency Boost jewel effect.
I was completely unaware of this.
Does that mean my gilded healing potions are unobs now?
God, working out how Potency Boosts and related effects work is going to be its own field of research at this point
Potency is probably the most money making stat in the game, specifically because it can basically double the duration of a luck 5 aura. that is how people can get almost 2 hours of luck 5 from 1 potion. Then you can use all of that luck for underwater diving for sunkens and chest items (all with a 3x item multiplier). and you get 3x items from all chests in treasure charts, including modified items which sell well depending on the item. and of course luck increases your chance of finding lost treasure on every treasure chart spot. if you want to farm charts efficiently and make alot of money on ao efficiently, max potency is basically required
I get that, but honestly my greedy ass just wishes it was good for combat
And I know people would be PISSED if this happened, but this function should be moved to Status Duration gems just for the sake of clarity
It’s alright in planned long fights where you need potions, for example you have a gilded power elixir and drink it with max potency before you swap to your main combat gear. And about it being moved to status gems, nah that’s a bad idea, they are very different, better to keep them seperate.
Also, the reason it doesnt change harming or healing is because they aren’t lingering statuses that you can change the length of. harming gel applies extra damage once and then again and again and so on. Healing is the same in reverse. To get the effect you would need to use something that has a timer on the effect duration like a gel or a positive buff. For example, i just tested it with my max potency set, my gel lasted 3 minutes without the potency but 5 minutes with it.
Oh wait oops sorry, forgot Status Duration is also a jewel effect. That was probably what Diva tested.
By Diva do you mean Rime? And also I doubt anyone would get the names mixed up like that, plus I’ve heard before that AO stats can be misleading
such a shame that battle alchemy is the most unviable combat method in this game.
right next to cannon fist
