Sort of hard to use the template here but as I was testing beam damage with my alt I noticed that the damage numbers were higher then they were supposed to be:
My wind beam with 77 power deals 122 damage, while if Power was affected by spell type, then it would deal 84 damage
Beam isn’t a multiplier tho, 0.5x blast damage is the base damage. Placed explosions are a multiplier because the attack isn’t in the placed state by default, placed is an add-on
I don’t think that really matters because it’s going to lead to the issue of beams getting too much reward for an attack that’s so easy to land like the placed explosions before this update, and I don’t see the reasoning behind not giving beam the same treatment as placed explosions, even if the multiplier comes from the spell itself and not their options.
Well beams share many issues that placed explosions don’t have, such as travel time, clashing, etc. It depends on the magic, but as a lightning user it’s almost always quicker to use a placed explosion (I actually measured) than a beam. I haven’t really PvPed with beams yet but just seeing from using them regularly the seem to work fairly clunky so I think they’re fine as they are. Also placed explosions have a massive hitbox whereas beams have a tiny one.
I don’t think you’re really getting the point here, my problem is that this doesn’t feel intentional, like how placed explosions did more damage then they were supposed to thanks to the power stat, and if left unchecked, it could lead to people complaining just as much about beams as they did about pre-fix placed explosions, complaining that they deal damage comparable to a blast with much MUCH greater ease
beams have an explosion size similar to placed explosions actually, no midair tho.

I’m pretty sure it’s intentional because it was specifically mentioned that base damage isn’t affected and beams do base damage.

Yeah but explosions have a massive hitbox, you can literally hit someone near the end of their high jump with a sphere explosion and deal massive damage, that factors into the complaints a ton, the two aren’t really the same
complaining that they deal damage comparable to a blast with much MUCH greater ease
For the damage point I can see it being fairly true but I don’t think it will be to the same level cuz placed explosions was literally just braindead whereas blasts still require some aim and are clunky. Placed explosions on ground are free damage unless you block, and yes midair they’re still effective but not to the same extent that blasts are, and additionally beams can clash so even midair game will be annoying.
Both r max size
wait really? weird, I feel like I renember the explosion at the being bigger
It might be because beam has a lingering hitbox (it might not I just feel like it) so people can walk into it.
lingering hitboxes are nice
Nvm I just did testing, beams don’t linger, it’s just that the hit was delayed so I thought it was lingering.
