Primordial Water Magic: Vortex Magic

Vortex Magic - A bright, swirling form of water magic that creates tsunamis to crash down and form into massive whirlpools, sucking in and drowning anyone in the vicinity, dealing damage over time and increasing their stamina costs until they escape.

I feel like there’s a lot of potential for a more deadly form of water magic, and it’d be really cool to see it get a primordial version that can deliver on that, any thoughts or opinions welcome.

honestly i dont feel like vortex would fit good for a primordial water magic name, but more into a space themed type. i’d say if it was called calamity or cyclone magic it’d be 'ight but its just me lol

I mean, when you look at the definition of the word vortex:
vor·tex
noun

  1. a mass of whirling fluid or air, especially a whirlpool or whirlwind.

cool and all but sounds better for a lost magic

water spin go brrrrrrr

Honestly I find it weird for the primordial magic of water to literally be a normal formation of water, made of water, creating water waves and tsunamis.
Like at this point its just water spells. If at least it was a lost…
Also I realized its super late to comment on this so uh sorry.

the description sounds a lot like lunar magic as well (bright water, and all). In the Adjustments it says that liquid pillars and beams will spiral as well so at that point it would literally just be lunar magic doing a twirl or smth.

The purpose of the magic is to encompass the most powerful natural catastrophes related to water and turn them into an extremely deadly offense only magic, rather than normal water, which relies heavily on other magics.
I’m not sure what you mean by “normal formation of water”, what else would it take the form of, if not water? It’d be like saying pressure magic shouldn’t be a primordial because it’s just gravity + wind; obviously there’s a lot more to it than that, which gives it enough distinction to be primordial tier.

It’s far different from whatever vetex has planned for lunar magic, lunar is dark blue water and vortex would be a very light shade of blue, so they already wouldn’t look visually similar at all, nor would they be similar in their purpose. Lunar is likely to only be a buffed up version of water that still remains a combo magic, but the purpose of Vortex is to forgo synergies and simply overwhelm the enemy with raw power.

Instead of leaving behind puddles that only synergize with other magics, it could form whirlpools that drag enemies towards the center and drown them, draining both their health and stamina and forcing them to use something such as a magic jump to escape.
Its status effect could also apply a debuff that further weakens their stamina regeneration and makes them take damage overtime from the water in their lungs slowly drowning them. The magic itself would have high destruction and damage in exchange for the loss in synergy, further separating it from its counterparts.
Liquid magics gaining those spiral effects are purely going to be cosmetic, the whole point of Vortex is that it’s water in its most volatile and destructive form, constantly swirling and crashing down and destroying whatever is in its path.
