PROFESSIONS OVERHAUL + UNCAP

Files should be able to choose one specific profession to specialize in, making it their job and career choice. Uppon selecting that profession, you’ll be able to uncap it and level it to lvl 15, which grants additional gimmicks/features related to that profession, but also gives you gear related to it.
There could perhaps be some npc for questlines that teach you about the profession and uncapping it

COOKING MASTER → HESTIA’S APPRENTICE

You have become a renowned chef across the vast entirety of the War Seas & possibly beyond, blessed with godly talent
Welcome to Sailor Lodge, how can I help you today?

Mastered Salvaging (LVL 11) → Due to your experience, you can use ressources more efficiently while cooking. Therefore, cooking any fish would give you x2 the amount of bones it usually gives, but also always give you 3-4 scales.
Refined Taste (LVL 12) → One extra slot in seasoning and for ingredients + 20% increase on positive effects from meals
Resourceful (LVL 13) → You can combine meals together
Delicate Hands(LVL 14) → You can use a single seasonning item up to 3 times before its consumed, meals that you cook also have a 10% efficiency buff when eaten by others.
Chef’s experience (LVL 15) → Thanks to your vast knowledge of food, you can easily guess the ingredients required to make a meal without second thought. This directly grants you access to a logbook of all meals you’ve made, you can scroll through it and click a specific meal to instantly make it as long as you have the necessary ressources. You are also able to cook much larger meals.
You can also make “Large Buffets” meals, which are much larger meals with bigger plates(?)

Additional

  • Grants a badge & title called “Hestia’s Apprentice"
  • You get increased exp when cooking depending on the ingredients
  • Potentially rewards you with new decorations for your claimed islands, such as a restaurant structure?
  • Maybe add some weekly / daily quest related to the profession where you have to complete food orders for a group, with a whole minigame?
  • Omen meat gives more exp to the profession
  • New badge that you get when you cook every food in the game, “ “Master Chef(?)”

Example of what the cooking max levle ouftit could look like

FISHING → ABYSALL FISHMONGER / POSEIDON’S DIVER

You have became a legendary fisherman, feared by all life in the ocean.
The fault lies within YOU!

Fisherman Sense (LVL 11) → You can detect nearby valueable fishes, such as sea monsters or arcane fishes. This sense gets more precise the higher level your fishing is, at LVL 15 it gives you a marker to the most valueable fish in the area. You can use this by using sensing while holding a fishing rod.

Underwater Habits (LVL 12) → Spear fishing, you can jolt a spear to catch fishes that appear nearby you underwater, you also gain clearsight underwater due to how used you are to spearfishing, along a slightly increased air bar.

Fisherman Iron Spirit (LVL 13) → Thanks to the time you spent training yourself in the ocean to catch the best fishes possible, you’ve developped a natural resistance to water poisonning in the dark sea, meaning that you catch it less often than other players and take less dmg from it. Your underwater clearsight is also increased
Legendary Lure (LVL 14) → New lure bait only useable by Abyssal Fishmongers, lets you lure sea monsters & rarer fishes uppon being thrown, has a CD between usages.

True Master Of The Ocean (LVL 15) → With the new Powerful Rod granted by your profession, you can fish up ANY Sea Creature with it, including monsters. Due to your reputation, fishmongers also have a chance to gift you a fish.

Additional

  • Having both of the fishing badges gives you an exp boost on the profession progression
  • Fishing in the dark sea slightly increases exp gain
  • Potentially could grant some additional unique items for customization / decorations & boats, such as an unique Sail Pattern & Island Banner, perhaps also some exclusive builds for your islands, such as a fisherman shop & display.
  • Grants badge & title “Abyssal Fishmonger” / “Poseidon’s Diver”

Example of what the fishing max level ouftit could look like:

BREWER → DIONYSUS APPRENTICE

Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one and only truth

In Extremis (LVL 11) → You can now cook potions on the spot, their tier will howeever be caped at Tier 3. Positive status effects from potions have a 20% efficiency buff on them
Quick Preparations (LVL 12) → Brewing Station Item
Skillfull Brewer(LVL 13) → Whenever you brew, you have a 15% chance that your materials are unused. Golden & Shining Cauldrons stop losing their status after you use them, unless someone who doesnt have T13 Brewing uses them.
Alchemical Transmutation (LVL 14) → Using your Brewing Station, you can create an alchemy circle to transmute a certain quantity of items to another one.
You gain access to a logbook of every potion in the game that you’ve made, and can instantly craft them if you have the necessary ressources.
Alchemist Wisdom (LVL 15) → You can now brew fused potions without them becoming unstable, same for daggers, granting them the “Fantastic” Adjective. Blood diseases from your dagger also take away slightly less hp
Finally, you are able to extract Hecate Essences by crafting a Gel using God’s nectar and a golden apple, then applying it to an empty bottle

Additional

  • Could probably grant some unique structure for your island, such as a hutt for brewing stuff
  • If any npc is added related to the profession & maxxing it, it should likely be somewhere in the Nimbus Wild with that one group
  • Grants badge & title “Dionysus Apprentice”

JEWELCRAFTER → GAIA’S CRAFTER

If I do, darling, its all yours.

(LVL 11) → You are guaranted to get at least one gem when breaking a rock, either a gem or the associated item to the rock, such as a clearstone for example
(LVL 12) → Slight chances to get extra loot from rocks.
(LVL 13) → ?
(LVL 14) → ?
(LVL 15) → ? Stable fused gems

What the Jewelcrafter Max level ouftit could look like:

Additional

  • Could maybe grant new unique structures for clan building, such as a mineshaft that you can go in which lets you have miners work in there to harvest gems or you yourself can work in.
  • Jewelcrafting is already extremely strong as a profession so thats why this focus mostly on mining rather than crafting the gems themselves. If I were to give it more content then It would powercreep way too much
  • Grants badge “Gaia’s Crafter”

CHARTER → TYCHE ARCHEOLOGIST

I've come to believe it's not so much what you believe … it's how hard you believe it.

Golden Hands (LVL 11) → You no longer dig up common chests, they’re always guaranted to be uncommon
Gold Rush (LVL 12) → Your shovel will start shimmering uppon approaching the correct digging spot, geting brighter the closer you are. You can also skip one step in Exotic+ Charts at their start, causing you to get more rewards at the end of the chart
Polyvalent Archeologist (LVL 13) → You now have a chance of obtaining modified Shovels when doing Mystic/Lost Charts, those modified shovels will have a variety of nicknames thats selected depending on the chart author name.
Those modifier shovels have modifiers imbued onto them, such as blasted, frozen etc. This allows you to have a 50% chance of the chests you dig up be imbued with the modifier in question, for example. If you use it on a place with the same modifier, it makes all of your chests are guaranted to have blasted on them.
Keep in mind those shovels aren’t guaranted to be obtained.
You can also “specialize” yourself, refusing to do any chart from an island you select, this means that you will not get any chart involving that island.
Diamond Eyes (LVL 14) → Increased chances of obtaining lost charts, +10% Loot on charts, you are able to skip one step of your choice in Mythic+ Charts
Legendary Conservator (LVL 15) → You are able to dig up “Modifier” Essences, Modifier essences are quite similar to Atlantean essences.
pratically 0% chances to obtain them from common-mystic
2% From legendary charts
5% from lost and mythics, keep in mind special essences such as imbued and gilded would also have a decreased chance.
IMPORTANT: YOU CAN ONLY APPLY THESE MODIFIERS TO ITEMS THAT CAN NATURALLY SPAWN WITH THEM, MEANING YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO APPLY THEM TO STUFF LIKE SUNKEN IRON.

Your fleet also has higher chances of diggingi up rarer stuff when doing the Exploring conquest

What the Charter Max level ouftit could look like:

Additional

  • could maybe grant some unique structure to clan building & decorations, such as some sort of small museum with books containing various informations, potentially additional stuff about the lore.
  • Profession receives an exp boost if you have “Bronze Sea Explorer” / “Nimbus Sea Explorer”
  • Grants badge “Tyche’s Archeologist” or “War Sea’s Archeologist”

BOUNTY HUNTING → ARTEMIS CHOSEN

You fear no one, but all that instill fear shall fear you

Hunter Experience (LVL 11) → You can pick up 10 posters at once, you also get 400% more drachma per successfull assassination on a foe with more than 1 million fame/bounty
Preying Eyes (LVL 12) → you can sense the people you are hunting from 2x as far away compared to other entities (stacks with athena’s chosen)
Proficient Hunter (LVL 13) → Your bounty book updates more frequently
Sudden Hunt (LVL 14) → You can now teleport to the server of leaderboard players directly through their poster
Master Hunter Sense (LVL 15) → When nearby your target, you can activatee a temporary sensing which puts a marker on them that indicates their location even when you’re not sensing.
They also leave behind glowing footsteps indicating the path they took, only visible to you (FADES OVERTIME)
You will receive messages from other criminals telling about the exact whereabouts of the player (example: “i saw blank at northern wind-row island, i saw blank at the ruins in makrinaos, i saw blank fighting jorund near ierochos”)

What the max level bounty hunter ouftit could look like

Additional

  • Having renown badges gives an exp boost to the profession, which gets higheer the more important the badge is (For example, Emperor of the sea would give a much better exp boost)
  • Would grant some unique structure like a bounty hunter lounge where npcs meet and give you tips about combat or such, you’d also get some decorations. Maybe also grants you the option of building a collosseum on your island & prison?
  • Some npcs stop attacking you(?), more specifically bounty hunter npcs

Reason to add/change

Adding this would allow for professions to feel way more impactful and unique rather than just one singular or two profession being necessary to level up, it could also help in giving more choices to files regarding their progression.
Some of these professions could also help curb & reduce the ridiculous price of some objects and stop people from having to buy them at a ridiculous price.

Keep in mind that the ouftits are ONLY examples, not what they should exactly look like, because like you’d be stealing from artists and stuff which I do not condone :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

This is a godsend. I always hated how the professions were practically useless to get more XP in after level 10.

The >10 level abilities do feel really balanced compared to how long it takes to get to that point, e.g., the jewelcrafter getting a free gem per rock break, charter having permanently uncommon chests (Possibly just +1 tier instead of strictly uncommon?), and so on.

A general rework of the professions is likely needed; some levels just feel… weak in comparison to others.

I don’t believe this will be added until post-nimbus, but oh, I do hope they consider this.

Thanks! I put a lot of ideas into it but this obviously isn’t mean to be directly added, to be fair I feel like it would be perfeectly fine to be added much later esecially if it has quests for each specific profession with a side storyline, having to talk & train with npcs at these tasks and stuff

I’m not saying the ideas are bad or anything, but…

My own personal preferences, I really don’t want even more grind for higher levels, let alone a permanent decision to only be able to pick one of these professions. I’m firmly against the idea of specific players having objectively better stuff (stronger potions, jewels, etc) just because you didn’t take the same path.

  • It’s especially iffy to me when it comes to jewelcrafting, as jewels grant real, tangible stat boosts and surely at least one of those extra levels would give objectively better stats to crafted jewels. You shouldn’t have to rely on others to get optimal stats if you didn’t take the jewelcrafting path.
  • Some of suggested brewing level ideas aren’t my cup of tea either, like having infused dagger with less of a detriment on health (that’s just free health other players won’t have)

Yeah, I’m definitely blowing things out of proportion and likely those benefits would be somewhat minor, but it’s my opinion, everyone is free to have theirs. I already hate trying to get an “optimal” build in AO given the shit ton of things you need to grind now (modifier, exotic enchant, maxed jewels, some extremely rare items). I am openly not willing to dedicate myself to even doing half these things for hundreds of hours, so I already have bad stats to begin with, I don’t want to widen the gap. Maybe it’s selfish, that’s just me.
But even if I had the free time to do so, I’m of the opinion that any player should be able to have optimal builds without being locked into one path or being forced to rely on trading. Better jewels, infused daggers and other tangible benefits shouldn’t exist if not all players can get them (even if it requires dedication and grinding).

its really not this suggestion specifically, im just making my own stance against the concept in general. the suggestion is okay, just something i dislike personally

Gee, I wonder what profession most people are going to choose

calm down lmfao :sob:

Just keep it simple, you don’t need to write a paragraph for basic opinions.

i mean, i could have just said i don’t like it personally and i’m too lazy to grind
but i figured i’d explain why specifically i absolutely don’t want any sort of unbalanced objectively better stuff with a locked path in AO. t’was moreso a statement against this type of suggestion in general, not hating this one specifically

The overall concept is fine and hell, even desirable, but the level range and rewards would definitely have to be changed if ever implemented.
As it is now, professions are more akin to runescape skill levels instead of actual jobs that your character would work. Having them be like talents (in which their level saves and can be switched one way or another) would feel closer to what it seemed like they would be according to the trello cards.

For the PVP aspect that Waping mentioned, it is true that it would be overtuned and that even if there were no additional levels, there would be professions better suited for PVP.
To that I say, simply give more to those that aren’t. It’s already a requirement to have level 9 brewing and level 10 jewelcrafting for PVP, so if we’re to limit all profession levels except for one of the player’s choice, just make them all equally as viable.

This earned my vote simply because the concept itself would be nice to see for as long as it’s implemented with an easy way to change one’s profession.

i agree with everything bcs this sounds cool as fuck, especially with the [god]'s [profession] things bcs more influences from them would be nice

one, singular problem, though

please

for the love of god

let we be able to change it

either only one can be activated and the other effects past lv10 will be disabled or even outright downgrade it back to level 10 aka kinda like strength mastery would be fine, just dont for the love of god make it permanent :sob:

My eyes widened in terror

I DONT WANT TO DO THIS AGAIN! NO! NOOOO!!!

This is an excellent suggestion overall though. I can definitely see Hecate Essence potions being a great currency on the market. Although I’m curious about the quests to obtain said uncaps, asking a dying divine being “Can you make me fish better” is quite funny unless we are absorbing them like Poseidon and Athena.

(Where have I heard this before? Has someone been playing Deepwoken recently?)

No it would basically just be some guy who’s so good at fishing that he’s legendary across the war sea, and he offers you to teach you his BADASS ways

this breaks every single rule but i don’t care i want it SO BAD

  1. Players having better potions / jewels would allow for more diversity on builds and push them toward progressing other progressions and playing on different files because right now what most people do is max out all their profession on a singular file then never do anything related to profession grinding again on other files.
  2. “You shouldnt have to rely on others to get optimal stats if you didn’t take the jewelcrafting path” well thats kind of weird to say because this just means that having trading in the game is a bad thing, a lot of players rely on others to get ton of stuff or even fight SOME bosses like the Omen
    3. The benefits aren’t minor, they’re supposed to be moderate/major depending on what you want to do, which influences your choice on the profession
    4. You dont have to do all of these things, because other players can simply trade you these things.
”Tangible benefits shouldn’t exist if not all players can get them” I’m confused why shouldn’t they exist that literally pushes people to make choices and have more diversity on their files rather than having one singular file with everything maxxed out and the other files basically devoid of any effort

I can replace the jewelcrafting buffs, I was rather very hesitant on jewelcrafting since its already op enough as a profession, I dont mind being suggested replacements.

as in being able to change profession that you uncap? I mean that would be weird, unless you want to lose the levels you gain in said profession but i doubt thats what you’re thinking

thats what im saying yes, you can change the uncapped profession, but you will also lose all progress made (past level 10) in that one

i mean i prefer no cost but be fr vetex aint letting that happen :skull:

Are you telling me we need jobs?!
Whats happen to pirate spirit? Spirit of the free! Freedom!

I aint reading allat, for now cuz I need to sleep, but I believe you cooking sir cuz I can smell it

Uncap fisher should be the one with sea itself. Basicslly become fish

I don’t have any problems with Jewels giving bigger buffs. No, not at all! I’d personally would want to be more powerful. The reason why everyone complains about fused jewels is because leveling up jewelcrafting is a PAIN IN THE ASS! So only specific people who grinded the x2 proffesion event now have it maxed and the rest have to do the painful grind of obtaining 1000 gems.

This becomes even worse when you account for the debuff you get when you max proffesions. The amount of exp you get from doing things in proffesions decreases the more maxed (Or I think the more levels you have in other proffesions) proffesions you have.

I assume that level 15 would have a 1 Million exp requirement, so now imagine the 300k exp grind but 3 times worse. This is why im terrified.
