My friend and I grinded very hard to get the materials for a luck 5 potion, which requires 10 legendary fish scales, and increases rare drop chances by 90%.
We decided to use this high luck chance for filling out the fishing journal, as we saw some success fishing with luck 3.
However, much to our disappointment, luck 5 is completely awful for fishing, as you can’t even fish fish with it. It will ALWAYS reel in items no matter what.
Is luck 5 bugged for fishing? We used every possible rod, graced, toughened, ensnaring, luring, lucky, none worked. All gave only items no matter what.
The items themselves weren’t crazy either. Just fodder vanity items or larimar/lapis.
It’s so strange because we then tested luck 3 after we finished with luck 5. With luck 3, I got several massive fish and even a golden tuna.
How is it that a worse tier of luck is better at good fish?
The theory was that somehow, luck 5 “overloaded” the luck stat for fishing, somehow causing it to possibly wrap around into the negatives and make it impossible to reel in fish, which explains why only items spawn.
With the 2nd luck 5 brew, we tested the opposite of this. Using a collector’s rod with treasurer on it overloaded the item chance and caused the reverse, causing only fish to spawn. (the catches were okay, some gold and massive uncommon fish).
All in all, use luck 3 potions for fishing as they seem to be much better than its maxed counterpart for whatever reason.
