It is kind of crazy that all this discussion would have just been avoided if Vetex had more of an open mind on making changing magics a bit more balanced with changing fighting styles in terms of time taken.
But if you’re a project lead, you never really need a good reason to do these things unfortunately. You just gotta face the backlash of the community that results from it.
I agree, this never needed to be and never should have been a problem.
Hard agree
No the argument here is “Its supposed to be miserable in game because it only exists due to vetex caving to pressure, and therefore should be as innaccessible as possible.”
Agreed, hecate is a joke, I’d rather quit than have to grind for it
who said that I think I heard something
At the end of the day, a magic reset is is not progression, it is unlocking a character customization trait that is originally locked after you create your character. It is more or less analogous to a character name change, except the difference is that there is no way to change your name without robux, compared to your Magic which has the Hecate Essence.
It’s NOT pay to win (especially compared to the starter pack) but that doesn’t mean it’s great either.
Oh, I see. Another reason to not go into forum arguments outside of home for me
I actually believe that having the option to pay to skip multiple hours of grinding in the first place highlights this issue: The process of obtaining rare items in the Dark Sea is extremely time consuming and frankly pretty boring. What the developers did here is, instead of taking time to think of a way to make the experience more enjoyable (I am certain that some people have come with their own ideas on how to achieve that), they instead added the option to skip it entirely for $20.
Yeah, hecate grind is inarguably really fucking shit, but having the option to skip it is better than not having it imo
There’s a difference between a character name - something that is purely cosmetic - and magic. Magic significantly impacts you if you choose a build based around it, with certain affinities locking out stats from being reasonably effective (speed with metal, anyone?). Equating such a thing to your character’s name is nonsensical, it should be equated to Fighting Styles. They both have 8 slots, have customizable moves, scrolls to learn skills, and some amount of permanence attached to them.
Not addressing the first point because there’s no disagreements.
Yeah because I am legally obligated not to comment here.
Most of your responses seem to be addressing the surface level and reliant on assumptions.
For starters, if someone is defending a point and you ask them to defend a tangential point you aren’t dealing with their argument, you’re dealing with their presumed intent.
This isn’t dishonest in a casual sense but it is dishonest in an argumentative sense.
Example:
“I hate charities.”
“Can you please explain to me why you hate poor people?”
It could actually be a very reasonable assumption to assume they hate poor people because they hate charity, and sometimes you need to make those assumptions; you can’t ignore probabilities. But if you are trying to argue a point, you can’t make these assumptions because you could be wrong. In this case I believe you are.
This is what it feels like is happening 24/7 in this discussion.
Expanding on this, that is also why you can’t assume that your arguments are summative if you’re only addressing generalizations and bits/pieces. Because then you are missing those extra reasons and only arguing with archetypes.
The fact that you need to pay the most money of any buyable for the game just to bypass a terribly implimented feature.
Like, make your bag, but not at our expense, what ever happened to that?
Obviously your character name has less impact on your gameplay compared to your magic (none vs significant) but they are both character customization traits. That changing your magic brings about significant cosmetic AND gameplay changes as well is clearly a reason why the price for a magic reset is significantly higher than a name change.
Additionally, when it comes to Fighting Style’s customization, there’s definitely some gameplay tradeoffs. While it’s a lot easier to switch up your Fighting Style, any Strength build has to deal with higher Technique skill point costs compared to Magic builds’ Spells. I’d like to think this was vetex’s reasoning anyways.
A big takeaway from all this is that if Vetex had just added a robux Magic Reset without the immensely shitty Hecate grind to compare to the drama would probably have been 99% lesser in magnitude.
I’m fine with a magic change gamepass, completely, but why is it 2000? If you want my money then at least ask for an amount that correlates to what any reasonable person would be willing to pay.
2000 Robux has the value of like four successful Hecate Essence runs
Especially because people can lie about their intentions. That’s why I showed scs from tester chat. It’s a private conversation so it wasn’t designed around the fact that people might accidentally see them so you can assume everything there is authentic.
The context could be misleading though, I definitely chose the sections I thought fit my point the best but that was only because I didn’t want people distracted by other statements (none of those other statements were from Vet though)
Therein lies the ultimate problem - value is subjective. Personally, I think 2,000 Robux (slightly more than $20) is an excellent deal to save something that could take multiple hours and stress when I could just be working for the same amount of time and pay back the cost and more.
How are you willing to pay 20 dollars for something you could go do for a couple long hours of your time?
