While this alone wouldn’t ruin the game, i think it’s a step in the wrong direction and too many changes like this might actually ruin the game.

Demonstrate it then. Why do we have to rely on your word? Like I hate when people are like “I’m not doing X, I’m literally just correct” and the correctness of their statement relies entirely on speculative reasons. Unless you have solid proof he is being spiteful then your framing of him being spiteful is spiteful in itself.
You can either back up and lower your confidence in this claim; “he may be being spiteful”, or double down on being spiteful.
Why is it predatory? Your previous explanation was that it was predatory because he “intentionally made game mechanics shit to encourage players to buy a gamepass.”
Now you concede the gamepass was made terribly and the gamepass being added after-the-fact changes the situation into being predatory.

Hecate Essence was a compromise, and this in turn is a compromise to the people that wanted a mile when given an inch.
I’m never a fan of money influencing gameplay, but this doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. The steep price tag makes it unappealing compared to playing the game, and as more is added to the Dark Sea, adding more to get along the way therefore keeping the hunt for essence from being a waste of time gameplay-wise, this will be even less of a concern.

In my opinion, it certainly is. I’ve spent about 12 hours hunting (just to change my color), yet I’ve had no luck.
