Quick Explanation of WoM Quests and Why I Hate Area Kills

After six different Riverville civilians asked me to do area kills, I thought I’d make this.

Do note that the crowns and exp rewards I will list throughout this post may not be fully accurate as I haven’t been recording the minimum and maximum values. Target values are approximated as well based on personal findings.

In WoM, there are three general categories of quests:

Fetch Quests, which can be either novice or starter rank. These quests either ask you to find an object that spawns in one of several preset locations, or talk to a shop NPC. The negative rep version replaces the lost item with plan delivery, which is exclusive to Dark Wizards.

These quests are very easy, though I’d say to avoid the novice version. The starter version usually has the target item/NPC within 200m, whereas the novice can go up to about 750m, though I’m not too certain as I always avoid them. If you’re looking for negative rep shops, these quests can be pretty helpful for that.

Generally, starter quests reward somewhere between 250 to 750 (?) exp and 1 to 5 or so crowns, while novice ones reward 500 - 1000 (?) exp and 5 - 10 or so crowns.

Fetch quest example:

Kill Quests are the most common type of quest. They either require killing a single NPC, a group of NPCs, or taking out a structure. These quests can be any rank, from starter to adept. These are also the recommended type of quests to do to level up as they provide a good amount of exp.

The starter version’s target is often within 200m, novice can go up to 600m, apprentice up to 800 or 900m, especially for structures, and I’ve seen adept go up to 1100m away.

Starter version rewards 500 - 1000 exp and 1 - 15 crowns, novice grants a similar amount though I think the exp cap is more around 1500 or 2000, and the crown cap is more around 25. The apprentice version grants several thousand exp, usually not exceeding 5000 or 6000, and between 15 and 75 crowns or so. The adept, from what I know so far, rewards between 5000 and 7500 exp and 50 and 175 (villain kills are on the higher end) crowns.

Starter quests always target a single low level npc. Novice quests either target a single mid level npc or a low - mid level group of 3, and occasionally a low level camp or ship. Apprentice quests can target a mid - high level group of 3, a mid - high level cap, outpost, or ship, or a miniboss. Adept quests target high level outposts or minibosses.

Kill quest example:

There is one last type of quest, which I generally refer to as Area Kills. This type of quest only appears at the apprentice rank, and is utter garbage. These quests require you to kill any six wizard or dark wizards, depending on the reputation of the quest giver. This quest does not target any NPC, allowing you to kill any six of the npc type to turn the quest in.

I’m not very sure of the reward range because again, I never really pay attention to them, but I’d say they’re fairly similar to an apprentice kill quest in rewards.

What is wrong with this quest type? The answer is simple. There are no trackers at all. You can waste half an hour wandering the map trying to find the target NPCs. Neither wizards nor dark wizards have structures either, making it a real pain. They only spawn in groups of 1 or 3. And based on one time when I saw an area kill available while I had the story line quest “kill 10 dark wizards”, which actually has a tracker, area kills can spawn even when the sufficient number of npcs to complete the quest doesn’t exist on the map. These are a total waste of time. Don’t accept these quests.

Examples of area kills (the six civilians that asked me to do these quests at the same time):

Bonus fact: Magic Council NPCs will only offer kill quests. They can also raise your rep above the normal rep raise cap from doing quests.

Lol I’ve known this for a while now, it’s one of my best early game strats to camp near the silent tower or magic council camps to farm kill quests

I accept area kill quests just to abandon them in hopes a better quest spawns

Am I the only one who forgot these existed?
I never do apprentice quests, by level 50 I can already farm silent tower npcs quickly

Even at max level I’d take quests to appear in the news and get rep
