Rant about ship tiers and why player ships still are "Reinforced" and not higher

WHY is our ship title still “Reinforced Brig”???
NPC ship tier scales off of their captains level, and disregard of the hull level. (Biggest proof is you can see their hull if you make them into a fleet ship, so I would sink a Heavily Armored Navy Brig and it would have a random lv 50 hull, while the captain is a commodore, level 180+.)

I want our ships to be Heavy or Armored titles, we’re level 175 max. I find it weird that a Reinforced brig (weaker than fortified, heavy or even armored brigs) can take down higher tiers easily. The reason? We are level 175 having access to lv 170+ ship parts, DOES THAT MAKE US STRONGER OR WEAKER?

No, the ship title does not scale on Ship HP, Ship Hull level or any ship parts. It only scales off of the crew level, especially the ship captain. For example you may have seen Navy Heavily Armored Brigs with low amount of HP despite being “Heavily Armored” like 16k or 18k. How did I know this? If you sink ships and turn them into vice command or command fleet ships, you can view their ship parts clearly and it reveals a lot of new ship parts. Any ship can be fortified, heavy, armored or heavily armored if their captain level is high enough.

Comparing that to players, we’re level 175, which would put us in the Armored or Heavily Armored range. I rant about this because of the inconsistency in realism and tiers of ships being pointless for players. And I want a cool ship title other than “Reinforced”. If you don’t find this worth mentioning or “It doesn’t matter” It does matter, it’s basically the same reason you wear armor for both cosmetic AND stats.

if we get those now in half nimbus sea then there will be only 5 titles left and we’re still not even halfway through the game..

because this is still early game and we’re not high levelled enough for better ship tiers

that only applies to npcs because it would be very lame and underwhelming if npcs followed the same ship tiering as players, as they’d be super weak and no challenge at all for anyone with a decent brig

You’re saying we need to be around endgame level (around 1000) for HEAVILY ARMORED? WHILST NPCS LV 200 GET THAT?

I doubt there are only that much ship titles (None, Reinforced, Fortified, Heavy, Armored and Heavily Armored), since there would be legendary ships coming.

And maybe players get a different tier than NPCs but we have Reinforced, not anything else. So the system SHOULD be the same.

And note, it doesn’t make shipfighting “lame” or “underwhelmimg” because it is a TITLE, representing the ship’s level and difficulty in defeating. It doesn’t change anything towards stats and shipfighting, NPC ships feels weak because we are STRONG with tactics and better ship parts than them.

600 not 1000 and yes i’m saying exactly that because it only makes sense for our ship tiers to progress as we progress in the game and reach higher level caps. As I said, if every npc ship were to be locked in reinforced just because players are as well, the game would have almost no sort of challenge in the naval aspect and we would never even know the next ship tiers because of that

there are a total of 9 titles: none, reinforced, fortified, heavy, armored, heavily armored, greatly armored, majorly armored, infamous and historical

it actually does because decreasing the tiers of the npc ships would mean decreasing their durability and crew level so :person_shrugging:

you literally just contradicted yourself..?

they don’t feel ‘weak’, they’re literally just npcs so you shouldnt expect anything too grand from them, but decreasing their tiers would mean they’d feel even weaker

I am not saying all ships should be locked at Reinforced, but players (ONLY PLAYERS) should also benefit from having their ship maxed out and fully decked out, by having a better title representing the strength of their ship.

Decreasing the tier of ships can only decrease their crew level, which would get them locked out of higher level ship parts. But Heavily Armored ships can still have level 50 or so hulls while their crew is well over level 170. That is why you see 16k HP heavily armored navy ships from notoriety.

this was explained by vetex in the wiki’s discord, idk if this is for npcs or player ships but this is how it works and these are the tiers:

(((LEVEL/1000)+0.011)*10)+1

with desmos i can see a level 170 hull is 2.81, which is reinforced ingame, so we can assumeeeeeee that a level 190 hull will get us to fortified (3.01)

then it probably goes on like this:
level 290 (4.01), heavy
level 390 (5.01), armored
level 490 (6.01), heavily armored
level 590 (7.01) greatly armored
level 690 (8.01) majorly armored
level 790 (9.01) infamous
level 890 (10.01) historical

assuming this is correct, if this is the rate for players it is a bit too slow considering we’ll probably reach level 600 in the story, if the limit for players is going to be infamous or majorly armored

ok, but what if this strength is currently only worthy of a reinforced title

rayman just sent the formula so go figure

So i put a level 50 hull on me brig and nothing else, what it get me? Reinforced Brig.

I put all the new level 170 ram, hull, a level 120 sailcloth, mortars, cannons, what it get me? Still Reinforced.

shrug, it is what it is

Thank you for the information, though this would mean an armored PLAYER brig would be like 10x stronger than an armored NPC brig. It doesn’t correlate in terms of tiering and makes NPC ships a joke.
