Rate my power system

This power system is one created for my original writing called “Incursion”. It’s based off of stars and other astral phenomenon. I would appreciate any and all feedback so that I can improve it.

It’s called Constellations, normally once people have enough knowledge of both the stars and themselves, they are chosen by a certain constellation, or very very rarely you can be born with one. Constellations give you certain powers depending on which one it is, and once you have a constellation you gain a title. Examples of this is the user of the storm constellation, also known as the tempest star, or the user of the flame constellation, who is known as the burning star.

Going all out with your constellation is called a Stella Breaker, using all of your stamina to unleash a powerful attack with your constellation, rendering your abilities weak or just completely useless for some time.

Constellations can be evolved to become more powerful, this is called a Nebula. Nebula’s are the evolved form of a constellation, and grants the user a new ability related to their original constellation. An example of this is the ice constellation’s Nebula called Nautilus, which grants the user the ability to manipulate water as well as ice. Nebula’s can only be obtained once someone has maximum mastery over their Constellation.

Supernova’s are the highest form of a constellation, thought to be merely a myth for the longest time. Supernova’s are all of the potential and power of a constellation and nebula, compressed into a singular transformation that grants the user unstoppable power. An example of a Supernova is the shadow constellation’s Seraphim, which allows the user to bestow curses upon others by either by word or by physical touch.

Semi-nova’s are a new technique that involves only partially using the power of a Supernova, allowing one to use their Supernova abilities without the burnout from using such a powerful technique. This comes at the cost of Supernova abilities being less potent.

Graaaah djin equip

this seems alright

for some reason the nebula and supernova stuff reminded me of epithet erased with class 2 (orbital) and class 3 (nova) epithet users where a small percentage of inscribed ever reach class 2 and very few people ever get to class 3

Is there any sort of specific energy system, like where your energy comes from? I assume they come from the stars themselves

Pretty much, think of a constellation user as their own engine of sorts, they can function on their own but they have to be careful not to wear themselves out or they could suffer permanent damage

It’s funny how I just saw two things today on here that are hilariously similar to some worldbuilding I did a while back. First the user Frigidus, then this.

Pretty cool, but how do other astronomical phenomena effect constellation users? Is it real-time, or at speed of light? (i.e. if a user’s star collapses, does that effect them immedaiately?)

@Winnyv6 You mean like if they use a stella breaker and they wear themselves out? That depends on how seasoned the constellation user is and how much control they have, a weaker user will probably collapse on the spot and take a few days maybe even a week to recover. However a more experienced user might have a few seconds of strength before collapsing, or especially rarely have a second wind.

It’s funny to think about, let’s imagine that a star in a constellation is two lightyears away. Now one of the starry magic users uses a spell or whatever and has to be like “yeah uh… give it two years. Don’t move, will ya?”

Not… how that works… Constellations users attacks don’t actually come from the sky

i swear ive seen power systems alot like this in modern tower fantasy stories, maybe i should take my meds

I do like the idea of “compatability” with celestial bodies though, and the balance of human beings not being able to completely harness 100% of any granted power without accidentally vaporizing themselves

also obligatory

REAL?!?!?

I meant more like if when a star reaches the end of its lifetime, does it effect the powers of constellation users? Say a star implodes a couple thousand light years away, does it effect them immediately, or only when we can perceive it doing so, following the constraints of light-speed?

Oh- yeah no it doesn’t

yap yap yap yap i dont see any subway surfers

nice 10/10
