Good morning, good evening, or perhaps good night my fellow forumers. Today I would like to have the pleasure of bestowing you my fit. Please take a look and please let me know how you think.
Ok to start off, here are the shirts and the trousers. (I got two of each)
Next up we have the slouch hat and bush hat. Obviously the slouch hat is on the left. It is used for drill practice and lessons. Should it be a commemorative service, the left side of the hat would be folded up, with a Rising Sun badge attached. (please excuse how there are some darker patches. I just ironed it.)
On the right I have my bush hat. Used for camping. Hence why it’s called bush.
A close of up the shirt. The small blue is the logo of the AAC.
In the middle there is a part to put a rank slide. (I sadly don’t have a rank yet)
ARMY BOOTS. (Sorry it’s a bit dark, that’s pretty much permanently there from camps where I trekked through mud whilst on field exercise.)
Ah I can’t forget about these little guys. Patches. (Some parts are blurred for privacy reasons)
Quick explanation:
Bottom Left: The unit patch. There are multiple Army Cadet units scattered around Australia, and each has a unique unit patch
Top Left: Unit patch, field-exercise variation
Top Right: Regimental Brigade Patch. My unit is part of the [redacted] Victorian Brigade. Worn if attending a field exercise with a different unit or more.
Bottom Left: The glorious Australian National Flag. It is the only patch worn on the Right shoulder. (remember those velcro patches?)
Now that I think about it, the bottom left patch may be a bit too revealing even though I censored it and if you know enough you may be able to figure out what unit this is and find my location.
That’s about it. Now let me know how you think. (There’s also a jumper but I never wear it.)
Context:
So, I’m part of an organization in Australia known as the Australian Army Cadets (AAC). Basically it’s a development program focused on developing one’s character, leadership, etc. It is (I believe), funded by the Australian Army. You learn leadership, camaraderie as well as skills literally taught in the Army like drills n stuff.
But that’s just a brief introduction, now things make sense, I explain properly. Basically this post isn’t actually directed towards anyone but myself. Starting this year I have left my current unit and is transferring to another one, a school based unit. What the hell is a school-based unit you may asked? Basically there is community units ran and funded by the army and school units that are funded by the school. Both know each other.
I have to hand back my uniform since I’m transferring. And I’ll probably never see it again.
What do I mean by that? The current camouflage pattern you see on my shirt, pants, hat etc. is called the Disruptive Pattern Camouflage Uniform (DPCU), nicknamed Jellybean for obvious reasons. It’s actually been phased out of the Australian Army since 2014 and replaced with the Australian Multicam Combat Uniform (AMCU), but cadets didn’t have that for a while. Now Cadets gradually replacing DPCU with AMCU so I just decided to post this for memories.
The unit I’m transferring to is much larger and thus much better funded so they actually have the cool looking uniform which I might post when I receive them.
Oh yeah there’s also Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) and Australian Navy Cadets (ANC)
Yeah that’s all I have to say. Let me know what you think. If you somehow have any questions about the Australian Army I’ll answer it gladly I guess.
